But if you want a 4k display, you may have it, and much cheaper than 5k (actually, for the price of a 5k, I think you can buy TWO 4k). And the quality is high enough (at least for me).

I don't disagree with that, but define better... If all you mean is fastest possible CPU, then yes. But better means many things to different people.machinesworking wrote: You can't really argue about price for high end machines, it doesn't make any sense. You can argue for a price point sure, "At 2000k I can build a better machine than any current mac at that price", that's a valid point, but arguing that high end machines are expensive is like arguing that fast cars are expensive.
For some people an integrated system is more valuable than max cpu cycles. Also, what is better for someone will also be decided by what they do.
Try making a beautiful photography book in the e-pub format. Urgh
Using a Mac and the Apple eco-system, you can make gorgeous photo books using free software from Apple and sell them to people confident that the layout you made is what people will see.
Also, as someone who gets paid for creating content... Mac's are cheap. 2 years ago I purchased the top end 15" MBP. It has easily paid for itself multiple times over. When it first arrived, I opened it, installed the software I use, and got to work and haven't had to give it a thought since. It's a highly productive machine that gets stuff done. For me that is 'better' and more valuable than a few more cpu cycles.

There's another way. You might want to check out this thread on LPHelp:festeringheap wrote:Looks great.Bombadil wrote:Here is a pretty good idea of how the new horn section works, although he seemed to have trouble with a couple of articulations. Amazing. Realistic, imo.
And FREEEEE!![]()
However, I am having a problem replicating something in this vid. Help!![]()
Around the 15:00 mark, he starts to use individual instruments after using the Chicago section.
His MIDI clips for the solo instruments have Articulation dropdown. Mine don't.Is there a setting somewhere that I have to check off to get this feature? (I did have the Articulation dropdown for Chicago)
For clarification, I mean the dropdown when you work in the Midi region, as opposed to the actual plugin.
Thanks!

Just as a side note, the whole point of 5K displays is so people can work on 4K video at 100% (no scaling) and still have space on screen for the UI of the video editor software.fmr wrote:F*ck 5k. So, Apple builds computers thought mainly for 4k video editors, and we, common mortals who don't give a sh!t to video, are mere footnotes in Apple plans. Glad to know that. And glad to know there are so many video professionals in the world. That's probably why there's so much sh!t on You Tube.
Curiously enough, while they seem to care so much about video professionals, their own video editing software seems to be losing market share:

With so much protection, integration and hardware advantage, FCP X beats Vegas Pro for a mere 6% margin, while Adobe Premiere reigns undisputably, literally smashing any competition. Weird, huh?

Not at all, tight integration with Photoshop is crucial to plenty.fmr wrote:With so much protection, integration and hardware advantage, FCP X beats Vegas Pro for a mere 6% margin, while Adobe Premiere reigns undisputably, literally smashing any competition. Weird, huh?
There are folks that probably have enough money to afford to enjoy 4K videos on their computer without actually making ones.fmr wrote:So, Apple builds computers thought mainly for 4k video editors, and we, common mortals who don't give a sh!t to video, are mere footnotes in Apple plans. i didn't say you should care. Just making the point as to why they go with 5K instead of 4K. It's not arbitrary. As for the market share, yes, Apple screwed up and is still sluggishly and half-assedly trying to make content creators feel like they're remembered as important customers. i'm not defending Apple's screw ups.fmr wrote:And I should care about that because?...Jace-BeOS wrote:Just as a side note, the whole point of 5K displays is so people can work on 4K video at 100% (no scaling) and still have space on screen for the UI of the video editor software.fmr wrote:F*ck 5k. Why are you guys arguing about 4K? 8K (7680 by 4320/UHD) is right around the corner. The 2020 Olympics will be broadcast in it. I'm not kidding.

fmr, The whole argument that PCs are better because they're cheaper to build a comparably specced machine ignores the OS entirely. Some people are willing to pay more OSX, period. That includes spending the time to make sure you're parts all work well together with the OS etc. etc. I see no reason to knock anyone's choices. I see valid reasons to use OSX, Windows, and Linux for what you do. It's all up to you what hassles you want to put up with, and each have their own downsides, whether you believe it or not isn't relevant. So yeah you should stop, you could start a thread about how much you hate Apple here, and a lot of people would reply, but arguing with people who use an OS is useless, coming from someone who used to hate Windows for different but equally petty reasons.
I see valid reasons for using Logic, especially with 10.4. ARA support, improved time stretch workflow etc. etc. Anyone currently an old time power user know if it's still possible to open up multiple MIDI editor windows? It seems the chain link graphics are gone from the windows in favor of the consolidated window approach. (Haven't used Logic since v8)
