SKnote release "EchoTaps" - History of Delay

i don't really fault the quality of Quinto's plugins. it's Quinto the person i have issues with.
there were many announcements and promises made, that never materialized. for example, Stagespace was supposed to get updates with new reverb modes, and i made a mistake of buying it on that promise when it came out. a few years later i sold it, with those modes being nowhere in sight, and a few announcements that they're coming "soon". now, look at his website - Stagespace isn't even listed as a plugin available for purchase any more, so it's pretty much abandoned.
and while i can sing only the highest praise for Roundtone and GTS-39, some of the other plugins had issues that were never resolved for me, despite reporting them several times. for example, 64-bit version of Grasso was distorting like crazy on my machine. that MCAudioLabs Pultec-style EQ (which is also no longer listed at his website - abandoned as well?) had a "tube blowout" bug where if you hit the EQ with a high-enough level, it starts distorting and never recovers until you reload the plugin. those are off the top of my head, i'm sure i can remember more if i try. when the plugins aren't buggy, they work great, but Quinto isn't terribly interested in fixing harder-to-find bugs that don't affect everyone but only some people.
and worst of all, Quinto simply isn't interested in making sure you get a good experience. his motto is, low prices, liberal transfer and refund policy, take it or leave it. as long as you get his plugins somehow (even if it's the most unintuitive way possible), he's quite happy to leave it at that. it took ages for him to bring up "user area" because (and i'm paraphrasing his own words here) it's not helping him personally, even though done right, user area would've eased the burden of support immensely. but that's Quinto for ya - he was set in his ways and used to his ass-backwards way of sending updates by email manually and keeping a spreadsheet for who has what. at least now we get user area, hooray i guess.
also, for the longest time, he was relying on "email me for updates" policy, which sometimes resulted in miscommunications due to people missing emails and Quinto thinking that "no updates" is a valid response to a request for latest version. and even when user area arrived (and was buggy - for example, i've had plugins listed that i didn't own, and didn't have plugins i owned, listed, got invalid download links, etc. - all of which i've reported to him and none of them were fixed), Quinto wasn't really interested in making sure it's easy to use - he's gone just far enough to make it barely do its job, but no further.
that, coupled with the fact that he will only listen to you if you express yourself in a way that he likes, and feels free to ignore you otherwise even if you're reporting legitimate issues, coupled with the fact that he appears to think that his perspective is always right and if you disagree with him, you "didn't understand anything" (his exact quote), coupled with the fact that he has no problem censoring critical posts in his forums (which led to a giant SKNote-related thread appearing outside his forum here, so that Quinto couldn't censor posts there)... all of this has made me sever all my dealings with Quinto. his plugins (of those i tried) were great, but in my case, they're not worth the trouble of dealing with Quinto. i've since found replacements, and have pretty much forgotten about it, and have never been happier.
the cherry on top was, when i sold my last SKNote plugin and emailed him to ask him to close my account, he was all "wait, what? why? what happened?" - still, as always, completely oblivious to the fact that sometimes, he's just an asshole. he means well, but he categorically refuses to look at himself and his conduct from a point of view other than his own.

I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

This is exactly the truth that Quinto would want censored.

I never had any big problems with the three Sknote plugins I have, but I have also been quite put off by Quinto’s behavior on the forums. You don’t have to kiss everyones ass as a developer, but a minimum of professional behavior should be a given...
Don’t use the plugins much because of the sub par usability, but I won’t part from DDD, haven’t found a good replacement for that.

I thought I'd check out the threads in SKnote's forum but the forum appears to be gone. I checked the whole list. Is this something everyone knew but me?

I have most of his plugins. No problems.
Ive had one refund which was quickly processed and hes fixed my issues with plugins not showing in my user area.
I must be lucky.

Mail exchange with Quinto were nearly always slow and irregular for me. I often had to send a second mail to have an answer or to remind him of my request (update, bug fix, license transfer etc.)...irritating.

I've had to refund people their money in the past, because Quinto never responded to my license transfer request. Even when I wrote to him again, saying "never mind the transfer now", he didn't respond. Why allow transfers if you're going to ignore the requests?

Quinto has been great with me. I like him. I like most of his plug-in creations. In all fairness, I know that he has issues with his email server at times. However, it can be frustrating trying to get a response from him sometimes. It is my opinion that he isn't so hot at delivering on his promises about updates and such. Overall though, I like Quinto and his plug-in goodies.

I've been waiting on EchoTaps for about 8 months but after reading about the experiences of others in this thread, I won't be buying EchoTaps or any other plugin from Quinto. I don't have the time or inclination to deal with crap like this.
Thanks to those who have shared their experiences.

Pretty much the same as my experience. I was in touch with Quinto last month about a missing plugin. He sorted it out in about 24 hours.VariKusBrainZ wrote:I have most of his plugins. No problems.

It's running in beta mode and it works well. The new shop is much better than the old one and the credit system, if you've already got any plugins, is great (he's giving 30% of existing plugin values as credits which is very generous, 10% going forwards).jbarish wrote:You mean the new loyalty scheme that was supposed to give a 30% discount on Jan 28th only and then never happened??? No, he's not a joke...

They're both there in the new store.Burillo wrote:Stagespace isn't even listed as a plugin available for purchase any more, so it's pretty much abandoned... ...that MCAudioLabs Pultec-style EQ (which is also no longer listed at his website - abandoned as well?)
Look, Quinto ain't perfect but I personally have never had any issues with him or his plugins, and my experience is all I can go on. I've bought new ones and second-hand ones, had emails with him and so on, never an issue. I accept other people's experiences may well be very different but, for me, no problems.
