OMG, that list is a f**king joke. They've got Stevie Wonder,Donna Summer, Boz Scaggs, Marvin Gaye, Dianna Ross and WAYLON "f**king COUNTRY" Jennings on that list.

Keep 'em coming Fluffy. This is getting funnier and funnier.
Yeah, I don't agree with some choices on that list, either, but still there are lots of Rock artists and songs on it. They were still around and successful, which is logical as back then a lot of Americans were still rather racist and would not buy records by black artists.

But people here are right, we are so far off-topic, it is absurd :hihi:
So, just don't make an R&B sound set and we are fine  :hihi:
Bye

First of all, the UK (sometimes wish I lived there) was so far ahead of the US musically, it wasn't funny. So much of their charts were UK specific bands or, at the very least, bands foreign to the US. I always loved the UK charts so much more than the Billboard charts.

But sales wise, and that's ultimately what mattered, because of the size of the US market, those bands were the ones who dominated as far as income earned from record sales. The UK specific acts couldn't touch those figures, which is why, ultimately, everybody wanted to make it in the US. I'm not saying we're better. We're just the bigger demographic. That's not arguable.

Look, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there are maybe a handful of people at this forum who have more overall knowledge of music from 1964 to 1989 than I do. But those 25 years I lived and breathed music 24/7 until the 90s hit and, for whatever reason, I just got sick of where music in general was going. And quite honestly, the last 25 years, I know very little of what's been going on. There have been way too many sub genres to keep track of and, with the Internet, way too many artists to keep track of.

But for 25 years, very few people knew more about what was going on than I did. And for FLS to come here and make the ridiculous claims he's made about synths and who used what and what sounds and who didn't is beyond absurd. If you locked the two of us in a room with nothing but a pad and a pencil, I could absolutely name more artists between 1964 and 1989 then he could. It wouldn't even be close. I'd bury him unmercifully.

But by all means, let him have his delusional rewrite of music history if it makes him happy. I can't do this anymore because I actually have a life and there are things I want to do, musically, that this nonsense is taking time from. I just started my brand new CD "Six Guns And A Chaser" which I've finished two songs for (they are up on Soundcloud for anybody who wants to hear them) and I'd like to get to my 3rd track already. It's called "You Can't Dance (And It's Too Wet To Plow)"

So I'm giving the round and the match to FLS.

God bless him. He's managed to piss me off more than anybody else here.

Fluffy. You win.

I'm outta here.

If someone asking for R&B sound sets pisses you off, we'll :hihi: I definitely think there is a place for that, even if they can be used in other genres. If you really want those sounds, own Repro but don't know how to program them, having a bank dedicated to just that would be helpful, if not unique. I don't see why this argument ever even started, it is inane.
If you have requests for Korg VST features or changes, they are listening at https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/requests/new

The argument was not over having an R&B sound set for Repro-5. The argument was over insisting that SUCH a soundset would be exclusively R&B sounds, like nobody else in the world uses them.

Point being, if I were to just make a generic sound set for Repro-5 (I didn't but made a set geared towards 70s prog rock) there would be plenty of sounds in that set that could be used for R&B, rock, whatever.

It is this insistence that R&B musicians magically invented these "R&B exclusive" sounds long before anybody else is absurd. Then, he DEMANDED that I prove to him that rock bands used R&B sounds.

WTF does he think he is?

Wiki's got a whole list of rock bands from the 70s and 80s that I'm sure he's NEVER heard of. Let him do the research himself. I've got better things to do with my time.

And trust me, I could easily do an "R&B set" for Repro-5. But what would be the point? Trying to sell them as "exclusive" R&B sounds to any musician who has any knowledge of music would be an insult to their intelligence. Again, some guy promoting an R&B set and the first sound he plays is Toto's "Africa" is laughable. Yeah, that's an R&B exclusive sound alright.

That's why I'm so pissed off. This insistence that R&B guys somehow invented these new cool sounds that are "R&B Sounds" is a total joke. And when people pass off bad information to others, I call them out on it. Plain and simple.

Hey you can laugh all you want. I wasted over 30 years of my life on charts and trends and all this crap until I finally got fed up with it all. In fact,if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't have. It got me absolutely nowhere. So what that I can name just about every band that came out between 64 and 89. Who gives a crap anyway?

But I'll be damned if I'm going to let people get away with spreading misinformation about music history like it's fact.
