Ableton: migration from kontakt 4 to 5

Hi !
I googled, and googled but didn't find anything. I thought it might be a common problem, but it appears it's
not.
Here the thing, I have some old Ableton live sets which had kontakt 4 instances.
Now when I open them one of them, Live tells me that kontakt 4 is missing. Which is pretty normal because I have kontakt 5.
However, there's no way I can recover the samples I created in Kontakt 4, because live doesn't load anything.
Worse, the sets were created with live 7, so the file format is not xml but binary ... I can't edit the set and replace kontakt 4 by kontakt 5 in a text editor for example.
Did someone have this problem ? IS there a way to solve it ?
Or maybe a way to download Kontakt 4 ? It's not in the legacy section of the NI website.

I had same problem years ago. I simply installed v4 again, saved kontakt patches from v4 instance, clone ableton channel containing k4(to keep settings and clips), replace k4 with k5 in cloned channel and load previously saved patch into k5. There is no other way around afaik. Real pain imho but workable.
Someone other might know better.

another way could be to edit the plugin-id of the kontakt5 dll (and Change it to the value of the id of kontakt 4). just put a copy of the dll in a subfolder of your vst folder and edit the plugin-id respectively. Now the old projects will load with kontakt 5 (which should be able to load the kontakt4 patches).

No this is not working. I tried that back then and i had same assumption like you have. This does not work simply because NI changed VST ID for kontakt 5. VST ID is different to K4. VST ID is parameter for which DAW is looking inside dll file.AKJ wrote:another way could be to edit the plugin-id of the kontakt5 dll (and Change it to the value of the id of kontakt 4). just put a copy of the dll in a subfolder of your vst folder and edit the plugin-id respectively. Anyway this won't work. Easiest way is like i described in post above. Save k4 patch and load it in k5. Save session with k5. done.

You can check your account for download links of your registered products: https://support.native-instruments.com/ ... -Software-dinaiz wrote:Thank you. Do you know if k4 is still available for download ?
Otherwise try to contact NI Support directly: https://www.native-instruments.com/foru ... es.317679/
As a general side note: K4 and K5 can be installed side-by-side.

What I am suggesting is to edit the dll accordingly. You can do it with any text Editor. Just search for the Kontakt 5 id string and replace it with the Kontakt 4 id string and save the dll (of course: make a backup!!! (respectively follow the instruction above since you might want to kepp also a Kontakt 5 with the original plugin id). Use, for example, VSTSpy to find out the plugin IDs.kmonkey wrote:No this is not working. I tried that back then and i had same assumption like you have. It's in mine. Did you purchase Kontakt 5 separately rather than upgrade?dinaiz wrote: Or maybe a way to download Kontakt 4 ? It's not in the legacy section of the NI website.
You can handle it in Kontakt 5 if you have the files on disk, and if you know what they are.

Is it ? Where exactly did you find it on the website ?jancivil wrote:It's in mine. Did you purchase Kontakt 5 separately rather than upgrade?dinaiz wrote: Or maybe a way to download Kontakt 4 ? It's not in the legacy section of the NI website.

I actually purchase komplete 7, and upgraded since. However, komplete 7 isn't on their website.
Anyway, thanks for the ideas, I'll figure something out ...

Did you already check the 'My Products & Serials' area in your account, as mentioned in the link in my previous post?dinaiz wrote:I actually purchase komplete 7, and upgraded since. However, komplete 7 isn't on their website.
Because you can usually find download links for Komplete 7 there ...
