He had 3 records in the top 20 for 73 ... I remember 73 as being a great year for music. Its not (ever) reflected in the charts.

Yes, I'm old. And soon I'll be dead. But I'll be damned if between now and then I'm going to let people get away with spouting stupidity as facts.

Depends on what you were listening to in 1973. Fortunately, there was a lot of good off the radar stuff that started in 1969 and lasted until about 1980. I was beyond grateful that we had 3 underground stations in my area so I could listen to other things besides "the hits."

But as the 80s hit, with the radical change in sound from the 70s, a lot of underground stuff BECAME the hits or close to it. Back in the 70s, a group like Missing Persons would have never seen the light of day. They would have been relegated to the bargain bin at Downstairs Records in NY. But in the 80s, they actually had a decent following. In fact, a lot of 70s bands that didn't get any recognition in the 70s finally broke through in the 80s. No, don't worry. I won't list them all.

The whole industry has gone through such a radical change in 50 years that I don't even recognize it anymore. I've stopped following the charts. I have zero clue who's around anymore, nor do I really care.

I'm still living those 25 years and that's good enough for me.
