Is Waldorf Blofeld discontinued?

We need a new blofeld, it is almost 10 years old. Keep the screen, add some knobs (I can live with the matrix but 4 more encoders would be nice). Double or triple the DSP power, improve the effects, improve multimode, implement some performing features (layers, splits, chord mem, hold).

Basically I would like the nord lead 3 concept with Blofeld sound engine.

I thought to sell mine, but after fixing it I changed my mind! It is really a good synth, a good wavetable general purpose synth! It can do many kinds of interesting sounds and it has very nice presets.

Waldorf has always been a company that has a relatively limited amount of bandwidth. Things like updates have always been somewhat slow to materialise because they don't operate on multiple fronts with products in the way that bigger companies tend to.

It seems as though the company is focussed on the Quantum for now... Blofeld could probably do with an update in an ideal world as the market around it has become so much more competitive.

So my guess is that Blo is dying in a "We haven't got time to think about this" kinda way.

Which, while it is a pity, might presage something genuinely groundbreaking in a similar price bracket to the Blofeld at some point down the road, when Quantum is mature.

I think the new synth sounds great, much as I couldn't justify the expense.

Yeah, the Quantum is not a synth for everyone!

It is imo one of the more interesting new synths to come along however.

I went through a huge amount of YT vids that showed what Blofeld could produce.
Really cool - so I bought one.
And had it for a day - and returned it.

What I was facing was a real struggle hard turn switch with much too small knob for the force it took. You use that to such a degree that is must be smooth - not just some switch that happend to fit the circuit board.

I thought about looking for a knob 2 inch width or so - that would make it better.

Redesign with good feel digital 360 degree like most controllers - there is a new joy synth to work with. To have external gear you have to use a computer with some controller software - then idea is lost IMO.

I want to go escapade and explore - and something that encourage that.

Nord synths are really to be copied in the area of fun to work with. My 2X I cherish for what it can do.

NL3 also, not sure why they left the leds around each knob - 2X is later and dropped that.
But 2X is 96k inside, and there is no aliasing basically. As the later Nord's too I believe.

Of the three major retailers in Canada, none no longer sell the Blofeld.
It is still available in the U.S. though....but for how long?

Isn't it based off the Motorola 56K like all the rest of their 'classic' digital stuff (Microwave, Q, etc)? That chip has been discontinued for like 10 years now..
