It's based on microphone input. The harder you impact the iPad, the more noise registers via the microphone. It's more than just two states but it also isn't an excellent system either. Better than nothing but hard to really control. Definitely not MPE (microphone can't register position or individual hits when tapping more than one key).pdxindy wrote:Logic Remote has some sort of 'velocity' sensitivity on my iPad Pro (which has no pressure sensitivity as such). Playing a note harder makes it louder, but it is not very sensitive. It might actually be just 2 states.Jace-BeOS wrote:Aftertouch is the vertical axis (slide along the top-to-bottom length of a key), but it seems very few presets use this, so it seemed to me to be absent when I was first trying the app. It's not configurable in the app, so you'll have to set up aftertouch in the Logic instruments. Very little seems configurable in the app, really. EDIT 2: I am unsure if aftertouch is also working in MIDI Mono Mode but I seem to remember it doing independent notes the one patch I noticed aftertouch applied to. I'd have to intentionally go check again to be sure. But if it is only sending pitch bend in MIDI Mono Mode, that would seem a strange oversight.pdxindy wrote:I think Logic Remote can only do per note pitchbends (x axis). What else is needed aside from Logic Remote?
EDIT: Not having used Logic Remote on my iPhone 6s, I'm not aware of any 3D Touch usage. Interestingly, apps can be written to respond to the size of a touch point and this can therefore simulate pressure (the more firm your touch, the more skin is contacting the touch surface), but I've only found one app that does this (the excellent FingerFiddle). Logic Remote doesn't seem to do it either. Weirdly ignored touch feature.
Logic Pro v10.4 is out

Agreed that the iPad Pro velocity sensing in Logic Remote has a low bit-depth but it’s a bit more than 2 states. Sounds to me like it might be “4 bit” (16 different states). As for Y-axis, it’s a bit hard to find a patch which really showcases it in MPE, but it does sound to me like it works. Had tried it in Sculpture (Modwheel Bows) and it sounded like it was independently controlling something like filter and modulation on separate notes. Upon recording, with either Sculpture or Alchemy, noticing that the automation lanes are separate per channel though the sensitivity might not be so much.pdxindy wrote:Logic Remote has some sort of 'velocity' sensitivity on my iPad Pro (which has no pressure sensitivity as such). Yes, I just tried aftertouch and that is the Y axis. It did not seem to work with a quick test because I hit the note along the Y axis and it remained the same. It only works by sliding after hitting the note. I have my Linnstrument configured so that wherever I hit the note changes the Y axis value (Timbre). And yes, it does not seem to be per voice, but global.
Using LR in “Tone” mode, not glissando or slide.
In Sculpture, LR affects the same pitchbend to all notes/channels at the same time, it sounds like (shows as Channel 1 in Logic). Thought it was because Sculpture’s bender was set up differently than regular pitchbend. But using GeoShred plugged into Logic Sculpture through IDAM (Lightning cable to the MacBook Pro, enabled the device in Audio MIDI Setup), pitchbend works as expected on a per note/channel basis and shows up for each channel in Logic (same for brightness).
Otherwise, not perceiving a difference in using MPE controllers with Logic Pro X 10.4 (as opposed to MainStage 3.3).

I thought the Logic remote uses acceleration as velocity input (like Garage Band iOS). Works not very accurate of course anyway.
3d touch is great.....for aftertouch/pressure but also not so good for velocity (Even if it can handle easy 7bit midi or even more).
Using the amount of finger works also semi-good in some apps.
Since i explored Audio Swift i use mostly the teackpad as well for multi-touch input inside Logic.
I do wish also the remote app has something like the Animoog keys or the Nave app blades.
Otherwise i get a bit bored with a flat surface to play.

Wipe your finger over the microphone opening while playing notes...Cinebient wrote:I thought the Logic remote uses acceleration as velocity input (like Garage Band iOS). Works not very accurate of course anyway.

How are you using Kontakt 3 on Logic X? Is Kontakt 3 even a 64-bit AU or are you using a bit-bridge of some kind?jonljacobi wrote:The Kontakt 3 player worked fine with several large multi-instruments. I did not kick the tires thoroughly. Just a few minutes. Kontakt 5 player worked as well.
i'm not able to even get Kontakt 3 installed correctly at this point, but i'm not finding the AU even validates (no errors, just ignored like any 32-bit AU).

Keep in mind, I have the player. 3.5 to be exact. 5 seems to work fine as well. Also, all my stuff was installed back when the system was 10.9. I've had several older programs fail to install on newer versions. Including Kontakt libraries. But that's really a separate issue. You can always roll back to your Mac's original OS, install everything, then update the OS if that's the issue.

i have nothing to roll back to. i've never had Kontakt 3 installed on this volume. i'm trying to get it copied from my Snow Leopard volume to the Sierra volume. i copied over the Application Support files best i could. Maybe i need to add an entry into Service Center's plist...???
Good to know 3.5 is 64-bit, but Logic doesn't seem to think this is the case. This is the part that has me more concerned. It doesn't even show up in the Plugin Manager at all.

That's way beyond my pay grade on the Mac, which I'm just now getting into depth with. If you're not installing it, but copying it over, then that's the issue. Just keep searching, there's an answer out there somewhere.

i got it out of "needs to be registered" mode by copying the plist file from my Snow Leopard volume to my Sierra volume (the one in the user library wasn't sufficient). That also added it to Service Center. Now i have to figure out the plugin issue...

i'm not finding any evidence of this. There's evidence that NI added some kind of 64-bit addressing to it in 3.5, but the standalone is 32-bit only, from what i can see, and where i see people asking about the AU on forums, they're being told it's not a 64-bit plugin.jancivil wrote:Kontakt 3.5 is 64-bit on Mac.

Thanks for confirming. Guess I need to buy a Kontakt 5 upgrade sooner than I was hoping to. Kontakt 6 isn't coming this year, is it?sprnva wrote:I checked the update for Kontakt 3.5 on one of my backup disks and there's no 64-bit Intel support. Only 32-bit and PPC.

I've no idea about K6.
Another option might be to get 32 Lives so you can continue to run K3.5 and any other 32-bit plugins in Logic.
But it's probably no harm to get a newer Kontakt anyway.
