recording problems, pls help!!

Hi everyone,

I always experienced mudding sounding when recording my songs. First of all, most of the instruments i used were nice samples. Only guitars and vocals are record in real time. For guitars, I use my podxt to record. For vocal, I use my Shure Sm58, and vocal sounds really muddy no matter how i tweak the eq.

My gear list:
P4 2.0
1gb ram
maxtor 30gb and 80gb
M-audio Delta 44
Mackie Micro series 1202-VLZ
Line 6 pod xt
Shure Sm58
Nuendo 2
giga studio 2.54

Some questions I would like to ask
1) with podxt, do i need to connect through a mixer to my soundcard or I can go straight to my soundcard.
2)Is there anything I need to pay attention to my mixer? it looks simple, but maybe theres something i missed out.
3)For SM58, is there anyway to make it sounds more clear? I mostly do pop songs.

Vash,

You can record your Pod directly into your soundcard...what software are you using to record? Hard to give advice without knowing how you're recording...I'm guessing it's a level problem, but tell me what host you're using and I'd be happy to give more specific advice. John

Try cutting all the eq below about 150 hz (or even up to 200 depnding on the track) on the vocals.

thanks, i will try to fix the vocal with cutting eq, but i believe there is not much i can do with my mic. BTW, I am not too sure with the bass track too. I basically use sample for bass too, however, if i turn on the bass to high, it sounds muddy, but if i turn it a bit low, I am not able to hear the bass track.
