I'm searching for a winamp plugin which pops up the currently played filename for 2-3 seconds.
It needn't be very customizable, it should just work properly.
It should even appear when an openGL/direct3d app is running (e.g. games, etc).

If you use Trillian as your IM client, you can install this little plugin that will give you a pop up when you change tracks and let you control winamp from the IM window.
Windows Media Player 10 (now out) is working pretty well for me though! It does what you describe on it's own - if you minimize it, it will give you media player controls in your taskbar, and then when you honver your mouse on it you'll get a quick little popup with the track you're listening to.

But both the taskbar and the Trillian window won't lay over an openGL/D3D application...

Arn't you best off posting this on the winamp forum?
I don't think such a plugin exists for Direct3D/OpenGL, it would most likely be all flashy and corrupted.

I have another plugin for Trillian that gives me .RSS news feeds and give me little pop ups over my system tray, and if I'm playing a full screen game i still get the pop upstimewastin wrote:But both the taskbar and the Trillian window won't lay over an openGL/D3D application...
