Yeah, I just tried it again and it wasn't that bad. But these plugins sure are ugly. I wish they didn't ask $240 to own each one too. That's keeping me on the fence.

Regarding GUI they remind me of those SynthEdit Frankensteins... but I don't mind the GUI that much for as long as it is not a moronic fish-eye version of it like Admiral Quality shit. What I mind is that these new Roland synths are kinda backwards. They tried to replicate most of the original things, but failed at implementing new things, according to times. As in "they haven't tried to make them better and more flexible" in this day and age when it's so easily possible. Maybe you should have a play with Arturia synths, dudes? Yes, I get it's an "emu", but please add something new, it is not 1998 any more. I don't need an 1:1 emu these days. It's not interesting at all. Especially because the sound isn't 1:1, too. At least give us some more shit to have fun with.braj wrote:Yeah, I just tried it again and it wasn't that bad. But these plugins sure are ugly. I wish they didn't ask $240 to own each one too. D-50 and JV-1080 are pretty much 1:1 sound-wise.

It’s really strange the way they’ve chosen to “package” these SRX expansions, it seems to me a bit of marketing value over usefulness, to me...
The blurb on the Cloud site clearly indicates there is more to come, too...

No they're not. The VSTis sound better and cleaner.EvilDragon wrote:D-50 and JV-1080 are pretty much 1:1 sound-wise.

As an experiment I replaced the "SRX.bin" file with a different SRX bin (same size file) downloaded from Roland, to see whether the plugin could interpret the wave data in different SRX files, but it didn't work (you just get the waves listed as though the orchestra expansion is present - ie the wave names are in the plugin, not the file - and silence or clicks from the waveforms themselves.)
Comparing the SRX files, they don't look to be in the same format - so in short - the SRX plugin will only load it's own "InternalA.bin" and "SRX.bin" wavedata, and not the Roland Axial SRX files...
I'll see if I can figure out what "sysex import" means for the SRX plugin, it doesn't seem to have any documentation...
Edit: Hmm, it seems they have removed the "sysex import" feature bullet point from all the blurb, meaning it's not supported (either the listing was a mistake, or it's not ready yet...)

JV-1080 plugin contains all the XV-5080 waveforms and sounds 1:1 to XV-5080's digital output.DuX wrote:No they're not. What I do mind is that they should have expanded the features, also according to times.

Yeah, prob worth a third of that at most.

Soundwise they are like a good commercial synth value, $79 to maybe $179. But UI wise they don't even compare with the best of recent freeware. And I get that the one synth isn't all you get for the year, so in my mind I am considering $120 for the synth and $120 for renting the collection, and will make sure to save a render or two in projects in case I stop the subscription. I am a little curious to see how well the brand new drum machines are, that makes the whole deal more appealing, but I do think I am set on getting a System plug out capable synth, I don't know how much I can invest so maybe just the small mono synth. Any words on how well (or not) this would work as a controller in Reaper would be helpful. That might be the deciding factor, I think it is all in or nothing for me with the subscription thing. Worst case scenario is I don't make enough use of the plugins. But if I use them a lot, the value increases, and maybe I will be able to sell something to subsidize it for the year. But man, they need to polish the interfaces up. Is there a way to set the default zoom currently?AnX wrote:braj wrote:Yeah, I just tried it again and it wasn't that bad. Yeah, you can set the default zoom. It doesn't make sense on any plugins apart from D-50 and JV-1080 because they're blurry as fck at non-100% zooms.

After receiving the Roland Cloud newsletter i just installed the new SRX Orchestra instrument using Roland Cloud Manager.
Overall it is similar to the JV-1080 plugin but with the additional SRX waveforms (besdes all waveforms from the JV-1080 plugin) and different factory presets compared to the JV-1080.
For creating your own patches from scratch it might make sense to use the new SRX instrument instead of the JV-1080. I will try to load my patches from the JV-1080 plugin there (and also the factory presets of the JV-1080 plugin).
The SRX Orchestra expansion adds 430 waveforms/samples to the 1083 that were alraedy included with the JV-1080 plugin so overall there are 1513 PCM waves now.

Didn't the original instruments that used the SRX expansions allowed more than one installed?
If so, the method followed by Roland Cloud will prevent us to use more than one SRX at the time, because each expansion will only offer the original + THAT specific SRX expansion, and doesn't allow to use more than one.

Yeah they didn't really think it through very well. Instead of making one plugin to which you could add separately licensed expansions just for ROM and patches...

i suggest we pinpoint this out on their FB page, they are quite responsive there and seem "to care?" or let us believe it, still better to write it there too!
