That Motown drum sound, or something close to it... Can someone recommend me some sample CD or sample pack + sample dealer website where I could get such drum samples?

Hi Mungo
First do you need multisampled-multi velocity drums ?
What sampler do you have ?
As I don't really knwo your setup I'll advice you something like Plugsound vol 3 Drum
http://www.kvr-vst.com/get/119.html
A nice section of 70's funk, disco and Motown kind of samples in this one.
You can also try artist drum (I only listen to the demos http://www.kvr-vst.com/get/854.html )
wich in my opinion can fit to you needs
Both are well priced, repectively 135 and 169 EUR.
Hope it helps you
Kisses

I'm usually using either DR-008 or RM IV for drums. I don't necessarily need multi sampled drums for velocity layers. What I do need is that the drums are in sample format, not as a specialized plugin, since I always build my own drum kits for each song.

I'd like to get different kinds of bass drums, snares, hihats, etc., but they all should sound like the 70s :)

I think Ueberschall do a disco sample CD. Its like loops, single drums and a few multisampled instruments. Might be worth a look.

I think the "Funk E" kit on SampleTank's Studio Drums Capsule has an authentic Clyde Stubblefield sound to it which could easily pass for vintage Motown.

Funk Equipment hands down the funkiest kits on the planet.

"Drummers of Motown" by Big Fish Audio should do the trick for you http://www.bigfishaudio.com/4DCGI/detail.html?1052

There's no audio demo :(

@Yossarian

Retro Funk doesn't sound right. The drums sound like the muffled sound was achieved using just post prosessing, not recording techniques...

@dharmawan

No LP player. If I sampled the sounds from either LP or CD, I would still have to buy LOADS of CDs/LPs to find enough sample material, which would cost way too much :(

@tee boy

Ueberschall's Disco De Luxe is definitely the best option here. I've checked it out at my local dealer a couple of times, but it only has somewhere around 15MB or drum hits :( I have no use for the rest of the material on the CD. That would make a pretty expensive drum kit, ~100e :cry:

So... I do have a problem with drumsounds :(

welcome to beat digging. you can find Tight disco breaks for $1 a vinyl if you know where to look. dunno about cd. but thats how it often is in life, u got to spend time to get something/somewhere

the thing with crate digging is that not only you find good samples, you'll find lots of amazing, inspiring music

Very true. You'll find all kinds of lost, forgotten and dope shit. Kinda stuff that doesn't get a "gold remaster" and pressed on CD.

Hmm. I quess you guys are right. I'll get an LP player and start visiting my local second-hand-music-stores and then I'll :band2:

Hmm... With that kind of source material I'll get much more use for my Phatmatik Pro 8)
