still works of genius that the kind of moronic dance music (be it britney or busta) can only dream of ever being

oh yeah PC - use the money saved to get acid or live - both murder garage band

Well I find it kind of relevant as I am becoming annoyed by the performance/price difference, as a Mac user. Could I Live with windows??? I am a Logic user so that doesn't make it any easier.

Also, I don't think its a given that intel etc will alwys be ahead (despite huge budget etc)... When the G3 first came out, it was beating the intel chips of the time (I am pretty sure this is true, from what I have read here and there). Now with macs, we have the whole new IBM G5 family, which is new. There have been teething problems, and it's too soon to say whether or not they will be competitive in the long term. They are expecting the next generation of processors from that family next year, which will be dual core. Maybe you'll be right robains, but I hope not :)

This is a fun debate, but...

It doesn't matter what you use to make music, or how you do it. Make a plan to create some music, execute on that plan, and you've just set yourself ahead of the pack.

Make music. Do whatever it takes to make it. All the rest is a distraction. When you press (click) play, none of that stuff matters.

I am appalled by the limit of this forum's imagination.

Music is sound and it can be decorated in any way.

whatever rocks the crowd-if you think your music is better than britney spears that' just one opinion. Make sure you can rock the crowd with it so that you have other opinions backing you up.

I did a britney spear remix into hard ass jungle drum and bass and the crowd fucken loved it and i loved it too and i played in death metal/new york hardcore bnds for years as a drummer, produce underground hiphop like cannibal ox type shit and spin hrd ass drum and bass with some neuro funk.

In fact i bet there are pieces of britney spears beats that rock your music anyday-although she is a complete idiot i agree.

Post a link to your music and let's hear your music that beats MTV, MTV2 or brittney spears like you said. Put your money where your mouth is. I'll play it for the crowd at the club tonite and we'll see what the reaction is to your music.
One Britney song come to mind:

I'm A Slave 4 U. Produced by The Neptune (despite to beats & bass synth taken from Nasty Girl by Vanity 6 which was Produced by Prince). :D

I love that song by all means. But they're BEAT BITING. Whatever happen to being ORIGINAL :?: :?: :?:

I like The Neptune's alter ego N.E.R.D. a lot better. They are the most underrated rock band in America. If people would just make the time to notice them???

As for Screw Music:

DJ Screw is not the first person to use "slow motion samples" (remember Tricky or U.K. Trip-Hop???). And the only people that can understand Screw Music are drunks (because this artform was invented by drunks & DJ Screw was by all accounts...A DRUNK)

My statements are never intended to be an emotional putdown to Britney. This was intended to be an emotional putdown to the Major Labels (protected by the RIAA) because they have LOWER THEIR STANDARD IN THE NAME OF MONEY.

You can't stand here in the KVR Forum and tell me that most members for the new-school can ever measure up to members of the old-school.

Find some people that can stand up to the legecy of Prince, Rick James, Teena Marie, Earth Wind & Fire, James Brown, Aerosmith, KISS, Kraftwerk, The Beatles, KRS-One, Rakim (with or without Eric.B), Mr. Scarface, N.W.A., or 2pac. Then (and only then) you, myself, and everyone else that can see this thread can get together and talk reality. :x :D

AND ONE LAST THING:

I was not the one stating a match up with you (or anyone else) for a music battle (that's more of Lady J's area). So if that statement was aim at someone else, please excuse me for the misunderstanding. But if it was, I'll think about it after my copyrights are register in it's entirely.

Maybe a battle of the artist/band type forum should be created in the future here in KVR so WE CAN ALL sell the score once and for all who is the king or queen of KVR and who is/are just full of it. :x

I love this idea. Ben, are you read this?? :? :D

Well i have and they re not that honest lol.
Andre 3000 is a big Prince fan. But nonetheless he's still the better half of OutKast. You don't believe me, then why the best songs from Big Boi's Speakerboxxx were the ones produced by Andre himself? :D

As for BEP, will.i.am did exactly what he need to do with his music to take his band to the next level (and it work!!!). But everyone knows that Fergie is also a bigger reason for the crossover success. She is one beautiful piece of latina flesh. 8) Oh...and she can sing too. :D

everyone knows gangsta is wack, but you have to support.

It's good karma bro-same reasons why you dont use a mac-good karma.

We should do a remix of brittney spears and replace her voice with samples of chris walken and robert deniro.

I also think that samples of bruce wills' singing would be appropriate.

you down?
Thanks to T.I., we all know that Lil' Flip is fake. Thank about it: On Filp's first career album, this boy is dress up like Lucky Charms. Studio gangsta indeed!!!!

The report is in this September issue of Vibe Magazine. You got to see this to believe it.

Lil' Filp gets no respect for lying about his own image. :(

Wrong :!: :!: :!: I can only respond to the statements aim toward me. :)

And if my quotes makes some people shut up or run the living hell out of threads....fine :!: :x

Some people like to make statements and expect no one to ever come back to respond. Well...I'm the biggest shock of the hour because I will respond. :x

Count on it.

I'm a PC user but I have to say if all I did was make music I'd get a Mac and set it up with Logic Pro and a Creamware card and probably a few plugins like Pluggo and Rhino I'd be happy with that.

But I don't just make music, and I prefer my PC simply because it's more adaptable to my needs and because I have lots of software that is windows only and it would cost me an absolute fortune to replace on a MAC - if I could at all. It's convenience and history really then.

It's really the old debate about open and closed systems - both strategy's have their strengths and weaknesses. Open systems by definition can be more adaptable in terms of hardware and sotware but that does come at a price as it means with each new addition to the mix the level of complexity increases and so does the potential for conflicts. With a closed system you have much more control over compatibility of hardware, and to a lesser extent software, and maybe this does lead to greater simplicity and stability overall and probably makes usability more easy to pull off too. You see this in software too - such as Reason vs Cubase say. Reason stays pretty much the same for years, but is less prone to crashes, bloat, and the constant update cycle needed to keep track of changes in the software and hardware world such as plugin conflicts etc. On the other hand Cubase is arguably more flexible as it can host plugins to increase it's functionality.

Incidentally the same strategy's occur in evolution - you have specialists (e.g. Cheetahs) and opportunists (e.g. Grey Foxes). In the short term specialists can win out because they focus on certain core tasks such as catching prey but in the long run specialists tend to go extinct quicker because when changes occur they are less easily able to adapt to them than the opportunists that keep their options open. Specialists only survive as long as the conditions they adapted to remain relatively constant (so sometimes they can stay alive by adapting to a niche that isn't going to dissapear - like Anteaters have for example - but in evolutionary terms this is at the price of becoming a dead end). You see the same two trends in things like breeding strategies and even outside of biology such as in economics too btw.

Wow!

Mac/PC

Cubase/Reason

Cheetah/Grey fox

So much to think about! Interesting post.

Post

It's all about trade offs really - neither is inherently "better" than the other - just based on a different strategy.

ok, gotta jump in and defend "xray"... don't know who he/she is, but sounds like a pro musician... which is why the hate.

first, the man's name is coltrane

second, clubs in his day were a lot different than clubs in our day, but 4 his day, yeah, i'd say john coltrane could make a club BANG, most definitely.

as 4 beethoven... when they played the second movement of his seventh symphony for the first time, the crowd screamed and applauded so loud that beethoven had to give in and replay it. (the first - and longest - break scratch in history? well, macy gray believes that beethoven was black, so...) so yeah, 4 the standards of his day, beethoven's music was BANGIN'.

as 4 the cat who posted his audio sample... no offense, but i knew that track wasn't gonna BANG in about..... .0005 nanoseconds after pushing the play button. again, no offense, it's a good track, and probably better than anything i can do.

it's just that to make a radio ready record is HARD 2 do. as a wise man once told me, when a bunch of young musicians (like me) were telling him how "awful" michael jackson's bad was,

"if it's so ez to do... you're a fool not to do it."

that's right son. the people who can produce a record that "rocks" or "bangs" or what have you are not typing on kvr right now (hello?) they're at a house party in the hollywood hills, sipping free cristal and sitting on a leather couch next to christina ricci watching daisy fuentes and 2 of britney's background singers dance and flirt with each other.

the rest of us are either trying to LEARN, and come to kvr looking for tips on getting some value for dollar power into our rigs, or we come to SNIPE those who have the skills to pay the bills, saying "well, it's just my hobby... i'm not a sellout."

one thing's true. you're not a sellout if nobody's buying.

ps, apple buying logic makes it a foregone conclusion, 4 me, that i'll eventually have to pick up a mac, which i've secretly always wanted but never been able to put away the money for, and despite the fact that i think mac's whole marketing approach is a little too... cute, for me.

but as of right now, logic 5.5 pc is getting my tracks ready to take to a pro mixer.... which is, i've come to realize, the only way i can currently achieve pro results, no matter what gear i use...

and now 4 some rank capitalism of the very best kind, the kind designed for my pockets to line;

No, that's not why the hate. You see, he appears to also be a clueless, arrogant twat, which is why the hate.
xraydelta1 + tony van dam + soultrane = great entertainment!
It's a wonder to behold how much twisted logic, misreading and ridiculously erroneous, clueless arguments are going on in this thread. Keep it coming!
