That's how it works in Reaper. When you use separate/dedicated process, the plugin is not run directly as a child of Reaper process, but is ran externally by reaper_host32.exe or reaper_host64.exe (depending on bitness of the plugin and main Reaper process), that in essence "firewalls" the plugin - if it crashes, it won't take down Reaper with it, it will only crash the external host process.
That's what it means to run things in a separate process.

Yes. Because it's essentially bridging 64-bit to 64-bit. It's about inter-process communication, that's all bridging really is.
