Great name xD

Fab swell at about 0:41-0:48 btw... And and... Well I'll comment on the stuff on Soundcloud at some point. It's so nice that there's stuff like this coming out of the synth even though it was such a challenging adventure start at first :)

I can hear the birds! I love this track - I liked your other brainstorms as well, but this is top notch - really cool sounds :hihi:

The only problem I think I can sense with your track is the same problem I had with Diodow - it was impossible to get the strings wide and warm enough - there seems to be a kind of metallic quality to them no matter what you do. But that's Diodow, it has nothing at all to do with us.

There are so many great tracks coming in this month - a lot better than last month, I think. I don't know what to do, five points all around or ultrastrict evaluation? I'm leaning towards the first option, of course!

But, after listening to my own track a billion times when I made it, and after listening to these other great tracks in succession, I realize that I have a problem with Diodow. I feel like there is something very tiresome about the total sound of it, something almost claustrophobic and nauseating, and I can hear it in all of the tracks.

I enjoyed working with Diodow (unlike some of you!), and I found it to be an incredibly versatile synth. And as a supplementary sound source I'm sure it's fine but, whereas I feel like a lot of other freeware synths could be the sole source of my favorite album, I don't think I ever want to hear another exclusive Diodow track again after this challenge, amazing as all these entries are.

Does that make sense to anyone else? Have any of you felt the same way about the sound?

Maybe I just need some new monitors...

So my track makes you feel like throwing up? :P

I've not listened to any of the other tracks yet.
I have found that I can maintain the delusion that my track might do well each month up until I hear what others have done. So I am prolonging the evasion of reality until I have to vote.

But I did find the sound of the synth to be very mid heavy and I had great difficulty getting any kind of musical sound out of it above 5k. Everything just drops off in SPAN around there. But I just chalked it up to the fact that I don't know what I'm doing and figured the synth probably is great at making sounds I don't know how to create or use. :
From hearing your entry from last month I'd say your monitors are fine.

C'mon, now you're making me feel bad! That's not what I said at all! Well, not exactly :? :o But seriously, though, your track is amazing  :hihi:

I should have done that, too! I was so self-confident after an initial wave of compliments, but each new track takes me down a peg or two. :o

Good point. Yeah, that's probably what I found, too - there's something dead, hollow, muted, about the sound of it.

Aw, shucks. Thanks so much!

Well, I thought this wouldn't happen. My submission!

https://soundcloud.com/functionform/biergarten

Reaper Win 10.

I wasn't going to finish it - what changed you might ask? Basically I took a few days to stew and then I got over it inspired by Peter's post. I went back and re-created every patch that had clicks. Bizarrely, I was able to reproduce the patches without producing the clicks. I'm almost 100% convinced the synth gets into an invalid state whereby it generates clicks as a by product of a mis-saved configuration. That or user error, not sure, I honestly just wanted to push myself to finish.

I used a little more compression/filtering than usual to knock some sounds out of the way of others. Also this was the first OSC I didn't bother watching the LUFS meter. Since soundcloud doesn't have a limit, seems like it's only a negative to not maximize. No factory samples used.

plugins:

TAL Reverb (general send)
Ambient Reverb (select patches)
epicVerb (1 patch)
Acon Multiply (only 1 patch, and even then only gently)
Ferox (only 1 patch, again just a tad)
TDR Slick EQ
S.LA.X
Hybrid Bus Compressor
Unlimited
Leet Delay
BlueARP

Basically I've fallen in love with Sonic Anomaly plugins.

Final thoughts. I wish the LFO could go positive and negative (please tell I didn't misunderstand it) and that it could continue through note on and off, so much more could've been possible for me. In the end, I think the gui held me up the most. When so little of shape of it changes, I would have a hard time keeping track of what I was looking at.

Thanks Hrast for your synth and everyone else for putting up with my whining!

Schiing, I know what you mean. It was difficult to work with a synth with 0 drift. The great free u he synths have raised the bar in that respect - our ears expect just even a basic wave to have character.

My Entry for the KVR One Synth Challenge #108: Diodow

This was a tough synth to work with but with all the help I got from the fine people in the OSC forum, I think it turned out better than most of the things I've done!

Thanks Especially to Peter : H, TheNeverScene, Doctor Bob, ans Schiing for the help with my drum sounds which are WAY better now than they were when I posted my first draft. Good luck to everybody - this has been so much fun! :)

Diodow * 25 tracks.
MANY ReaEQ's
A few ReaComps
A couple of ReaDelays
A Couple of ReaVerberates
1 Blue Arp
1 Tal Rev2
1 Limiter No6

And yes.... Ohhhhh, the clicks. Not in my life have i seen a synth with so many declining options... or that produced more clicks despite all of the declining options.

My final render produced a *whole new batch of clicks* which I couldn't troubleshoot in my daw (reaper) because they only showed up in the rendered audio.... :dog:

But after about 40-50 renders I fleshed out most of them. I promise to try to ignore most of the clicking that I hear during the voting process if it is unintentional sounding and mild... what a wrestling match! :)

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Diodow Ride. A one of a kind simulated 4D ride that will take you to the galaxy far away. You will experience not only the stars, moons but also the aliens and weird living beings. So fasten your seat belts and enjoy the ride of your life time.

All sounds in the track are from 24 instances of Diodow synth. No other plugins or samples used.

DAW - FL Studio

FX Used:
Fruity Parametric EQ2
Maximus
LoudMax
BeyerdynamicVS
MSED
A1StereoControl
Fruity Delay 3
MEqualizer
Bass Professor MKII
FathomFive
DimensionPlus
Transpire
Loud
Fruity Delay Bank
DD Delay
DD Autopan
BusColors4
OTT
MTremolo
Sanford BassTightener
AmbientReverb
Fruity Reverb 2
MAutopan

I started out in Reaper and almost gave up because of crackles. Somehow it behaved nicely in FL Studio. No weird behavior or crackles at all. CPU usage was also pretty decent. I use FLS to create loops and sketch out ideas. Reaper has been my go to DAW for many years. I am more into linear based rather than pattern based so this was a very good exercise for me. I am anxiously waiting for FLS 20. They are adding some nice workflow features. I like what I have seen so far in the teasers.

Good luck to all participants.

Hey everyone... my entry with Diodow.
Have mercy on the clicks! I love this synth but it has also driven me crazy :) I ran out of time to try to figure out and eliminate all the clicking. As someone else noted - this is the synth with the most ways to remove clicks - all of which appear to mostly do nothing! But what an awesome sound engine and possibilities!

I've used a couple of the factory samples from the presets. (As no-one said I shouldn't when I asked, repeatedly!) Most of the sounds from init, and some adapted from the preset bank.

Anyway, here it is....

Good luck everyone, looking forwards to listening to your wonderful works!

Top notch zarf. Love the spacey echos and the crazy jazz trumpet. Great job making the dnb kick as well.

@Zarf, I'm pretty sure that page 3, 8th post, line #2 clearly shows a unanimous decision not to use samples. :uhuhuh:

Just kidding :-D

Very cool track. Dizzy Gillespie was gettin' his groove on!
Just a touch of EQ and a tickle of compression

Hahaha... so I spend about 5-10 hours of my month trying to banish lemons from my track while bh9090 was busy making *sweet* lemonade :hihi:

Well played, sir... well played indeed...

(Ps. no sarcasm either: your track sounds sweeeet! :phones:)
