Music stores have always sucked, fun fact, half the people behind the counter are failed musicians, and angry about it, it's no wonder the whole vibe sucks in them.
:hihi:

I've kind of wondered about this... it's like the corporate end of Hollywood studios where they meddle with productions because it's the only way they can "be filmmakers".

What a shock to think a wealthy, privileged corporate executive is anti-government...

I've been wondering why my Les Paul has fretboard rattle, even after being set up by someone who knows guitars (assuming a Guitar Center tech knows about guitars). I was under the impression, back when I bought it, that they were quality instruments. See, I was fooled by the old reputation they earned, but have since burned. This is what today's Apple lives on...

when you say fretboard rattle? you mean fret buzz or like an actual rattle? i hope the first, the second one i don't know how it could ever happen?

obviously it would be better to have neither but at least buzz can be explained and fixed.

It could be a wonky truss rod, loose tuner, or a loose screw somewhere else. I had this issue with an Ibby Artcore, that I eventually had to return and exchange for another.

And in the case of my LP that I sold for a big loss, even a re-fret didn't fix the buzzing at a perfectly acceptable action height.

well, ive been lucky then, ive never had any kind of rattle. well loose tuner yes, but it was obvious where it was coming from and not a major fix.

wonky truss rods shouldn't be leaving the factory at gibson level, id expect that in an argos guitar maybe, but as i said earlier the qc has took a major dive.
it just seems weird that the epiphone stuff seems to be better put together than the gibson. how do you mess that up?

Sorry, I meant buzz. The only way to fix it is to raise the strings, right? Or heavier strings...? I don't want heavier strings, by the way.

Edit: Take note that I'm not a proper guitarist and never will be. I put up with it because I realize my fretting hand is weak and lacks muscle memory and dexterity. These definitely contribute to the buzz but I've found that proper pressure and placement doesn't solve it either.

Hard to imagine a world without Gibson.

Those who have a couple at home, don´t have to, in the lifetime, anyway.
If the company really would go down, and none would produce the brand anymore, which is very unlikely, the value of good examples went up.

It's almost as if natural dominance hierarchies are an irrational, short-sighted, utterly stupid approach to things.

If you want, you could try scales or exercises at slower than normal tempos, wherein you hold the note with as light a touch as possible, as close to the fret wire as possible, and then change one note to the next as quickly as possible. Maybe. I dunno.

Truss rod adjustment also plays a big role in buzz, rattle, intonation, and overall playability. Best to check with an experienced player or tech before monkeying around, but you can DIY after.

Just as an example of how things change, when I was a kid there seemed to be a whole bunch of great guitarists playing ES-175s, most notably Joe Pass, Steve Howe and Pat Metheny. Nowadays, someone starting out wanting a similar type guitar has more affordable choices, and from all indications relatively well-made ones.
