Like many people I probably have information overload and too many tools to keep up with all the (very helpful) videos and even updates sometimes (first world problem!), I guess that's even more of a reason why things have to be intuitive and easy to use, its so easy to miss amazing features (I could list all the things I missed for ages in DAWS and Instruments but I would be too embarrassed!....I know I am not alone as I recon 50% of posts where people say I whish X could do Y are followed up with a post from someone saying it can!
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

I perfectly understand. It happens to me also.SLiC wrote:Like many people I probably have information overload and too many tools to keep up with all the (very helpful) videos and even updates sometimes (first world problem!), I guess that's even more of a reason why things have to be intuitive and easy to use, its so easy to miss amazing features (I could list all the things I missed for ages in DAWS and Instruments but I would be too embarrassed!....I know I am not alone as I recon 50% of posts where people say I whish X could do Y are followed up with a post from someone saying it can!
I have been working for solutions to -partially- solve this kind of problems, and during the last months, It seems that one of the trees I was considering finally gave some beautiful fruits and became more mature. I contacted Xils about my ideas, and they are at least interested. So we'll see.

StiX in action.
Inséparables
Uses only stereo output, limiter on the master bus. StiX patterns triggered live with midi KB. This preset will probably be included in a future version.

One advantage with StiX Midi Out VS strict Drag'n'Drop pattern to your daw, is that you can trigger other drum sounds modules, itb or hw ones, with StiX sequencer.
So you can mix StiX with any hardware drum machine for example. LIve. Or trigger any sound of a VST drum machine that has no sequencer (or a sequencer wich is more basic compared to StiX one)
Please discuss if you feel inclined to.

Does it have to be a 'VS', would lovely for it to be a 'AND'

This could happen, I agree. ( It's still under evaluation, and that's why I invite people to discuss it in these pages)mcbpete wrote:Does it have to be a 'VS', would lovely for it to be a 'AND'
Still, it's a definitive advantage for the Midi Out stream flowing from StiX, and that you can nonetheless record in your daw. Drag'nDrop just can't do that.
Also, you can layer StiX sounds with sounds of other drum modules, hw or sw. Effortless.

I find it baffling how totally against drag and drop midi implementation Xils are.
Stating that midi out is more versatile because you can trigger another drum machine is wack. You can do that with a midi part too.
I’m now done with Stix and am selling my copy.
Peace

Nobody said it won't be done. Like I said, it's under evaluation, and for myself, I'm mostly in favor of doing it. Now, comparing two workflows, including things that are can't be done, can't harm. In other words,if you're not interested into layering sounds from StiX, or replacing some of them, with other VST or Hardware instruments, some other people might be.

A totally new preset browser is in the pipe line.
It will make choosing global presets, building drumkits, see dependancies and contents (Global->Drumkits->Drumpads) etc much easier, quicker, and visually better.
This will very probably be extended to all Xils synths, but the first one equipped should be ... StiX
Lots of other things are beeing schedulled too for StiX.

That's good news, I would really like to see it simplified so it reflects a real file structure with individual Presets stored on the Hard Drive. Personally I think Bank systems are restrictive and outdated, the OS file system is a logical way to organize presets already that anyone can and is already familiar with using. Tagging can be used on top of that as an option for people who want it (which I'm personally not a fan of), but the more transparent the file system is the better I think. I don't have Stix so I'm more talking about the other fantastic Xils creations that I have, and would love to see a general improvement and openness in that area

Sorry if I missed it somewhere...I read that certain drum machine samples are in Stix, does it include Simmons drums as well?
From the website:

Well, with StiX you have thousands of presets of different kinds + dependancies to deal with (and more to come) So tagging is very usefull for that, including the fact that with Xils system, you are allowed to create your own tags.Astralp wrote:That's good news, I would really like to see it simplified so it reflects a real file structure with individual Presets stored on the Hard Drive. No Sampled Simmons kits strictly speaking but a lot of 'simmonesque' drumpads made with synthesis, or made with synthesis then resampled. More to come btw.Examigan wrote:Sorry if I missed it somewhere...I read that certain drum machine samples are in Stix, does it include Simmons drums as well?

Atm, sampled based, youu have tr-808/909/727, Drumfire, EMU SP12, System1000, Drumtracks, Linndrum, MFB and a few other iconic drum machines. Here again, more will come in the future, including some rarely or never heard, esoteric electronic drum 'things'. Also maybe it's worth considering imho that with a sample in StiX, you can do much more than with any other drum machines.( first thing beeing layering it with real analog oscillators, then going thru the pristine zdf filters, add tons of various modulations and use P.lock parameters in the sequencer etc)
