V-MACHINES

Hi all, new here, hoping someone my be using, or have used a V-MACHINE VST player. I only require it to play mainly one VST, being a bass guitar instrument, which it does well with. My issue is this, when making any changes on my Yamaha PSREW400, via midi to the machine, the machine will change from the preset I am using for the bass instrument, to a different preset that I haven't set to my liking. I am sending from the Yamaha on channel 11, which is the bass output channel, and I have set the bass vst to channel 11 when I edited it within the software program on my desktop. I would have thought this would only result it the V Machine responding to the bass ''clock'' and nothing else. As V Machines are no longer factory supported, I am finding it difficult to get any information other than the huge manual that seems to go around in circles at times. There may be a setting in the V Machine hardware unit itself to block these midi messages that it is responding to, but I am a little lost with it. Any help would be great. I am a retired audio and sound tech, so I may be able to help around here also. Regards. Geoff

I haven't used either, but I've located both manuals. It appears that the V-Machine can play either plug-ins or built-in sounds. I assume your bass sound is one of the latter. You don't say what sort of changes you are making on your keyboard, but it appears to be sending a control change (CC) message requesting a program change, which is odd if you're not trying to do that. The V-Machine has a setting whereby you can select whether it passes such requests to either the built-in sounds or to a plug-in. The two settings are Patches and Presets. If you are using built-in sounds, it looks like changing it to Patches should try to send it to a non-existent plug-in and avoid your bass selection being replaced. I assume these settings are on the MIDI section of the menu.
Fingers crossed!
Fingers crossed!

Thanks for going to the trouble that you have, yes, I follow what you are saying about the cc messages. I will try and select it to patches, and keep it from upsetting the bass VST that I am inserting on a USB. Regards. Geoff

I only use the V-Machine program as windows plugs host on a Mac. But as your problem is more about the hardware, You might post your question in the hardware forum...

It has been years since I last used my V-Machine, but check page 25 of the V-Machine manual:

Basically you need to globally set your V-Machine so that it does NOT react on program-change messages
(another potential option would be of course to make your controller not send them in the first place)
edit: there is a typo - I meant page 35
