If you look closer, you'll see that the review is from March 2004, when Live4 was not even announced. And the reviewer only says that it does not host VST Instruments - no word about VST effects. True for Live3.

Yes. Live 4 is a dream with all of the VST effects and VSTi instruments I have tried. In fact it is a little dangerous as I can easily spend hours jsut experimenting with the possibilities inherent in only a few synths. Beware!

So you could say Live can stand up against cubase now?

BUT...
You canNOT use VST's, instruments or effects, with Live as a rewire slave. Version 4 or version 3.

So, what does Live actually do so well? I'm just looking for reasons to check it out, really. I'm not planning on playing live anytime soon, so that's not a priority. Just interested in any extra possibilities / improved workflow / additional fun it might offer me over, say, Cubase...

Live 4 is VST(i) capable. I used version 1.5 for awhile but the lack of midi was pissing me off. Version 4 has taken care of almost all of my gripes (now they just need to be able to stream QT video and it will be the shit). Live 4 is worth every penny I bought it with.

A real drawback that I usually keep pointing out - how could I forget...

Jam your arrangements in, instead of constructing them with the mouse.visa tapani wrote:So, what does Live actually do so well? I'm just looking for reasons to check it out, really.
