Would you like to elaborate on this false statement ?

Googly Smythe wrote:My preferred answer is "Good God NO!".

I don't like closed systems of any (almost) sort. And what would I do with all my favourite Waves, Plugin Alliance, etc, etc, plugins? Not to mention the synths!

Not happy with Arp8 or those players?

I use Nora a lot in Reaper, Dual Arpeggio is sort of similar, but not the same.

What is Arp8?

Maybe not the right place but as someone else opened up discussion

I use midi vst a lot, in my main daw so far (waveform, mulab) it is very easy, you put it just before the instrument, evrything else works automatically (dont have to worry about any connections). I know that in Studio One for example it is not that easy (not to talk about something like Cubase.....), so in Reason 10 it is not possible at all :o

It is automatically connect the cables for you if you just drag and drop that device after the already there device. For example, I have the Grain already there, and I just drag and drop after it in the Rack a utility device RPG-8. When you press 'tab' you see the connection is already made for you:

Thanks for explanation but is this statement:
Oh, it would be great if you could use midi vsts like arps though.
true or not ? Can you use "external" vst midi plugs the same way or only the integrated ones (I know there are some nice ones with these "player" stuff but I would really miss for example all the kontakt sequencers I already have and use) ?

I really don't know! But I think you can't. You might find the info you are seeking here:

Thanks for the link,

this statement:
Do MIDI VST devices, like sequencers, work in Reason?
Not yet.
seems very clear :( .

I really wonder why this is not possible, maybe cause of the "fixed" internal connections that on the other hand should make working easier. After all it states "yet" and not for all times, so maybe....

I like their user interfaces, but it's way too expensive for me...
How do the built-in synths sound compared to the usual VST synths?

Possible to get it pretty cheap as second hand.

Use them normally inside Reason.

if you have any free version of reason lite or such that came hardware it's $99 from JRRshop.

no brainer.

I don't have any version of Reason 8)

Given the completeness of the DAW, I actually understand the high price. The synths seem way above the ones that come with other DAWs, if any.

I would buy Essential then upgrade. That would be about $170 which I can't say expensive.

If I compare the synths to Sylenth1 (I think this is what you meant :hihi: ), they are not similar. Your taste is difficult, so maybe the best is to download the demo which is fully functional for 30 days I think, but I don't know till when this crazy discount will continue!

The classic VA is Subtractor which is a cute synth! It is very old now (older than Sylenth1 of course). Thor is a beast but can do many nice clean VA sounds. The new one is Europa which can sound like anything! It is a very capable synth.

Of course there the other two granular synths, one is as old as Subtractor and the other one is new. It also has a sampler with all the bread and butter sounds. Maybe outdated a little bit, but still sounds good IMO. It is a matter of taste, and how do you like the workflow and instruments inside. For me, I like it a lot (but I'm not new to Reason). The shortcuts are also very well thought of :)

There are several drums modules and they are very good. It is a great all in one workstation IMO :)

As a hobbyist - sure! It's got everything one can need to create high quality music of any genre. It's far from perfect, but it surely will appeal to certain people, who like the look and "feel" or real, analog studio.

If I were a professional - probably not, because things that make it "fun" for hobbyist (the modular patching) can be done in other DAWs much quicker and in a more flexible ways, while the sequencer does feel dated in many areas "wasting" user's time. Also, the VST support and performance is lacking.
