The pc/desktop application is very different from mobile, at least for the free account. It's like Free+. I hear ads about *pay and you can choose songs* and think "what? I skip and choose always; why pay when I apparently won't get as much as you say out of it." The free desktop version and every paid version is NOT AT ALL like radio. It's closer to a personal iTunes collection with custom playlists and limited bitrates.Jace-BeOS wrote:This nicely sums up my feelings about radio and streaming services. I don't make music to appeal to the masses, so there's no way any of this is relevant to me as an artist. I hate the radio for multiple reasons and streaming services aren't any different in my observations, so they're also irrelevant to me as a consumer.dayjob wrote:i don't see what the dilemma is.. they don't pay anyone. i don't use it. i still have an old ipod w/my music and a bunch of playlists. i make my own.. i don't need their shitty algorithm to do it for me.
when did music become so passive as a listener? i guess the radio is passive and this is no different but if that's the case then i'll double down on not caring about spotify because the radio sucks too and i haven't listened to radio in years either.
so why should i care about the "new radio" that is spotify? they don't pay artists. streaming is pretty much a scam for independent artists especially. if you're posting on KVR about spotify then you too are an independent artist and have to have more plays than taylor swift just to make minimum wage.. your'e better off putting your music on bandcamp and finding your audience.
you're pissing in the wind.
I like to use a computer, not a phone, for most things.
Just saying ... it's not like radio in paid or desktop versions. I don't mess with suggested playlists because I'm very picky and I won't vibe with most tracks on them, however I can skip anything and I could ignore that aspect entirely.
I often listen to songs/albums I already bought in vein attempts to "help more." Heh. I am broke but not a total mooch. I use it to check out stuff too. I HATE 30 second limitations. That was the worst way to browse music and I actually tried that for a little while.
