Hi !

After writing romantic music for the last couple of months i decided to change genre for a while, so i came up with this scratch song... and i post it here in case i have to go back to my "piano and strings" before it's too late ! :D :D

So here's the song ( http://www.homestudioitalia.com/provamp3.mp3 ) and tell me what u think of this "mess" :D

ps : the intro is lame!... forgive me, didn't have time and the samples i have in mind to do it... BTW it's just a scratch thingy ! :D

Anyhow

Realizing this is just a rough sketch I must say I very much like the way you built the arrangement right after the intro (which definately needs some work), it brings a very dynamic energy to the track that you should work further on. There's quite a few cool elements allready that I like but I can hear that a lot of the playing I feel needs tidying up or a tad better recording. It sounds a bit sloppy yet.

I'd be interested to hear where you'll be taking this once you put this back on the mixer/puter.

Sloppy ? NOOO ! :D :D

I am working on the track right now and I am actually cleaning it up a bit.

I will keep the drums though, I like them distorted like that, it WAS done on purpose... I am trying to layer some CLEAN drums just to let the listener know that the effect is not of some DIRTY/badly recorded drums, but is something sought for...

Didn't want to use loops, but i guess i will now... there are some ideas that i would like to try... IE : i never tried to slice up/stutter a loop... i will have to learn...

OK....

I wanted to have a listen to this because it's a change of genre for you and I think you could probably use quite a bit of feedback.

It's hard stepping out of your comfort zone like that. I'm not sure if it's because you wanted to actually start using those VSTi lying around instead of those piano and string samples for a change.

The intro was not a keeper for me. It added nothing to the overall composition and just sounded like an excuse you use a very large sweeping pad sound for a while.

Having got that initial criticism over I was really impressed with what followed. I don't think you really did stray that far from a more romantic/classic feel even with the use of many electronic instruments, but that's what I really liked about this piece. It was lyrical, musical and pleasing to the ears.

I quite often wish people were writing more melodic pieces like that (I'm a bit of a traditionalist at heart).

If I were you I'd keep exploring this area and see where your very musical sense and your experimenting with electronic sounds takes you. And once you start getting a little bit more comfortable in your surrounds - perhaps make a bit more a journey into more experimental rhythms and progressions - but only if you feel interested.

Good work.
