Hey,

I'm looking for copies of Knobsters old free sample libraries Lo-Fi Cinematic Grooves volumes 1 through 3.

His site is no longer working properly.

If anyone has these, I'd really be grateful if they could share them.

Some links from archive.org have some context - but not the files. :(

Thanks in advance!

I remember these packs! At the time, I used some of these samples in my tracks. I don't have them anymore, but I'm pretty sure the music loops aren't public domain. The reason being that a lot of cheap movies made between the 50s and 70s used music libraries for their soundtrack. Music found in the music libraries records are licenced to the companies who bought them and they aren't in the public domain at all. Even the films that are supposed to be public domain aren't when you look at the library of congress copyright office: https://www.copyright.gov/

Thanks for the explanation :)

In lieu of this being the case - could you recommend perhaps some sample packs that are inspired along the same lines? I don't need facsimiles of these knobster samples - but I simply adore the groove, swing, dusty and zany stuff from the late 60s through the 70s.

Stuff like the price is right game show, and those cheesey old films ;)

Thanks :)

I like the same kind of stuff. :) But I don't know of any libraries in this "genre". The closest that comes to mind is Les Productions Zvon memory collections which contains mostly dialogues but also music cues and phrases. The libraries are split in dialogues, speech male/female, hybrids, Sfx and music folders. I like to morph and transform the music cues into ambient beds which retain a "retro" vibe which sounding a bit modern at the same time. :phones:

Sweet idea. I'll check those out. Zvon. I think they are a local oldschool KVR folken? :) BTW, thanks for your response. I'll keep my eyes peeled too and if I find anything try to remember to post here.

Theoretically we could create similar stuff of our own and thereby protect ourselves from the copyrights right? If we are "inspired by" things, and recreate the stuff on our own not 1:1 note for note, etc. ? This is legal? I ask because you seem to be an SME on the topic.

Yes, that would be the most sensible thing to do. Personally, I replicate the chord progression and jam from there, or use my own chords and make a riff/melody derived from the samples by copying the swing of the notes. There's always the hip hop approach that I like a lot: slice the chords, load them in a drum sampler with pads and jam new chord progressions.

It will actually sound way better and you'll have control over the degree of sound degradation you want to apply. Way better, but more time consuming. That's the trade-off. :)

Hey guys, I've seen that you've been looking for the lo-fi sample packages, I've dedicated quite a bit of my time to preserving the stuff posted on Knobster, and as a result I've found all of the sample packages and mirrored them.

I hope this will be useful

Oh yeah and on a sidenote, I also have mirrored the entire plugins page and the files it linked to, I even have a working version of keywriter, which is a VST that doesn't have a single working copy on the internet
