I also wonder if I am the only woman taking part in the One Synth Challenges?

As a woman myself I would say the technical side of production is the most intimidating thing. This is still the case for me but I slowly change my view from wanting to get a technical "perfect" mix to realizing that it's the song that is most important and that there is no completely "correct" way to mix/master a song.

Well, I just stumbled about a nice short video about Sylvia Massy, which is very inspiring especially for me as a female. She's awesome!

Sylvia's been doing a few interviews lately. TapeOp and others have had podcasts of her, and she just finished doing a "Mix with the Masters" seminar last week. (http://weeklong.mixwiththemasters.com/)

Sadly, many women on here don't announce themselves, because they're tired of some jackass asking them where they're from and other things that are completely unrelated to making music. (This also happened on GearSlutz, a site which, by its very name is almost certainly offensive to women.)

I was speaking to an actual woman yesterday. She was wondering why there was such thing as an international womens day. Then she asked me if there was an international mens day also. I said, no.

Make of it what you will.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

I'll get my own flame pit setup for this but.... What exactly do you want? Why would anyone encourage women to start doing something just so there are more women doing something. If women want to make music then great, do it. If they don't want to then great, don't do it. It seems just as discriminatory to want more women making music just because they are women. What I want is for women to do what they want, not get into more music because there is a gap in the 50/50 balance. I just want people that want to make music to make music. Anyway, there you have it, roast me.

BTW. I have been in 3 bands in my life and all had a female singer. Many of my favorite bands are all female or have a woman as a singer or some other position.

P.S. Sorry if I've misunderstood the OP. But I just can't understand the mindset of let's make sure we have everyone included so it doesn't look like we are discriminating.

That's what I've often heard. And musical girls I know, pretty much always end up with either singing or more traditional instruments like violins, pianos... And computers are boys stuff :hihi:

That's absolutely fine if women aren't getting involved in the production side of music just because they don't wish to. However, I suspect that it's more to do with societal norms and expectations (that the role of the 'producer' is a male preserve), and that they are not encouraged to take up more 'technical' pursuits as much as men are. We're probably asking the same question as why there aren't more women engineers/computer scientists/physicists etc - for years women were discouraged from studying science related subjects and it takes time to change this.

C'mon girls we need your art and your music in this world !!!

To be honest, I'm seeing them constantly in my Youtube feed.
It started 1-2 years ago. Nice to break the constant flow of hipster beards :)

OK, but if you delete (as you did) all my posts, even though I wasn't a women hater, did sexist jokes, or having been offensive to anyone, please delete also those (one remains) where there are quotations of bits of them.

That's pretty much my point. People, regardless of who where or what you consider yourself to be should be encouraged to and feel free to do whatever they want. Not coerced into a field to even up the numbers.

She's cool

This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here? :D ShawnG

Strawman. Encouraging people to pursue interests they have been made to feel precluded from isn't coercion by any stretch of the imagination.

Yeah, that's kind of the central tenet of feminism. Guys.

Well, that and the resistance to people being prevented from having equal treatment in their pursuit of music, or any other work, job, art.

I guess it's a bit of a catch 22 - you can't acknowledge people that you don't know about. Off the top of my head the only contemporary female electronic music producer I can name is Grimes, and even she's more pop than electronic. But then I'm not exactly 'down with the kids' these days so there's probably quite a few up-and-coming female electronic artists I've not heard of.

PS I searched for 'female EDM producers' on Google and it brought up a row of portraits including Kylie Minogue, Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé and Madonna :dog:

Hey, thanks for posting about Mrs. Jynx. I'd never heard of this artist until today, and I just spent the last few hours listening to everything I could find of hers on Youtube and Bandcamp. Great early-AFX/u-ziq type stuff; in fact, I might like Mrs. Jynx better than u-ziq. Good stuff! :phones:
