hi group...

i just noticed that emu´s emulator x doesn´t support hardware playback of soundfonts like the sblive with kx does. but i really like the ability to play soundfonts via hardware thus freeing up my cpu.

my question is, is there another soundcard that supports hardware playback of soundfonts? or perhaps other formats that i can convert sf2´s into?

this kx doesnt not always work, not all sf2´s are loaded, its to many friggin needed until you get the thing running...

or should i go for a decent akai sampler with scsi-link to tranfser sounds?

Funny... Most of us resort to SoundFonts played by SFZ when CPU loads get too high, because each instance eats less CPU than the typical softsynth cpu-hogs. Ofcourse HW playback eats zero CPU...

yes, and its really lovely playing 16 tracks with dozens of notes and spice everything up with some fx and watch the cpu meter doesnt show up at all

how about adding a second soundcard and routing to its input the sb's output while triggering the sb's soundfonts (have to be preloaded , i think it was called 'audio hq' with the sb live) and recording them with the new soundcard live.

but won't be much fun to setup and care about .

it would be interesting if there are any soundcards with onboard sample ram , any

good idea plastique but how should this work?

you really cant use e.g. two asiodrivers the same time ... thus i´m afraid i have to choose hardware sampler or something

why is there now hardware soundfontplayer?

you would just use one asio driver , from the other card.

the part where the sb card comes into play is when you send midi to its midi synth(s) which then send audio to the outputs of the sb , regardless of which driver is used (it's hardware internal) , so the sb would only need a simple driver (preferrably the original sb driver) to be able to load the soundfonts into the card's memory.
but - as said - it can be a pita to set this up and bind it into a workflow .

no they dont, they use the systems

And if you can afford a Creamware card just for the purpose of playing sf2s without putting too much pressure on your cpu you might as well get a faster processor and use sfz and have the nicer workflow as a benefit.

does some know a soundcard/hardware like this?
