it was the old psychic take over of peter parkers body trick.

I think these are engineering problems, not challenging the laws of physics. Thinking conventionally, you might guess that if the first flawed unit is 5 years away, it might be 50 years until it got seamless. However, since the technology underpinning this is machine learning, it might end up being a lot quicker than that.vurt wrote:as interesting as the challenge might be, without artefacts is going to be nigh on impossible id imagine.
there are so many variables involved in just a sentence, the amount of automation and fiddling "live" after you've managed to program the initial patch, its a level of complexity that would probably mean anyone capable of playing said instrument to a point where its indistinguishable from an actual singer, theyd be as in demand as an actual singer.
And ya know I sorta hope not. I get the feeling of horror many have expressed here, singing from the soul and all that feels somehow different to a virtual guitar or a cello. But I do think a) there's no clear intellectual argument to distinguish it and anyway b) it's an inevitability. If it can be done it will be done cf Jurassic Park.

im not saying we wont have an acceptable sounding human voice from a computer.
im saying one without any distinguishing artefacts from a real singing voice, is not only going to take the technology but also a damn skilled operator to keep the whole thing fluid, don't forget for this to work you have to somehow automate all those variables, in time with the words you are saying.
and also that said technology when available wont be hitting the streets for a grand, maybe down the line but initially that's going to be, as you've referenced rurassic park, a top end movie sound design tool, for a long while before it becomes consumer level.

Super small. Interbreeding is a problem when alliterations are used.vurt wrote:worse still, im sure james jonah jameson married aunt may, or it might have been his dad? but its like, in new york, theres only a few families?

Quite possibly, yes. Like I said, it's doubtful I will see this in my lifetime, but one can still hope. I'm sure in 1968 (50 years ago) nobody imagined some of the technology we have today.vurt wrote:im not saying we wont have an acceptable sounding human voice from a computer.
