Hi Attila
I find my link and download it. thanks for the percussion generator. It create intresting drum tracks. I notice a problem, when change the rythm creater of 1. note to other rythm(probalistic) and switch to phrase variation window and add or remove a variation. when switch back, the rythm creator is change to subdivision.
I think for the snare and base drum there need a offset value because now the snare and the base drum output when change a generator setting come mostly on same step. if can set a offset in either base or snare then base and snare are shiftet as in real drum play. mostly happen 1 base 1 snare and only sometimes base and snare. in the rythm generator to create not too fast rythms need set 1/4(if the rythm creator allow this). and the shift then can set to 1/8 of snare rythm. then there come a base snare alternate rythm

Hi Magicmusic,
yes, you are right, I am thinking about a different approach for rhythm generation which would be amazingly flexible.
Before rhythm generation you would be able to assign a division (1/4, 1/8, 1/16...1/4T, 1/8T, etc) and limitations (e.g. use only every second note starting from the second note...) for every rhythm generator.
Implementing this would be important but it would probably break backwards compatibility. There would be substantial changes in rhythm generators. I think it is not possible to make it compatible with existing compositions. So there is a chance that only v4.0 will bring this feature.
Phrase generators will also change in v4.0, you can assign possible notes that the generator can use, which is also a big improvement.
I'll try to add an "Apply Offset" option to the rhythm options which would make things better.
Thank you for the useful feedback!
Attila

like the generator so far.. With the sound fonts, which would be the closest to use? (that would match the mapping for the generator)

Keyboard shortcuts don't seem to work (or acting weird), I wonder if I could reset them. I can't find the default shortcuts anywhere.
For example I want to duplicate a phrase with the exact same settings with alt, but now it's just extracted a one line rhythm from the phrase instead. I only want to reset the settings, that's all. I don't know why it has become like this.

Yes this would take Rapid Composer a big step forward towards my ideal way of working.I am thinking about a different approach for rhythm generation which would be amazingly flexible.

The Percussion Generator automatically uses the drum map that you set in the track. So if you use the included GeneralUser soundfont, and select the preset "808/909 Drums" (under Drum Kits) the belonging drum map is automatically set for the track. If you are using another soundfont you will need to select a suitable drummap.BluGenes wrote:like the generator so far.. With the sound fonts, which would be the closest to use? I am sorry for the confusion, I am the one to blame. The standard way of copying is Ctrl+drag and I received lots of requests from users to make copying by Ctrl+drag instead of Alt+drag.
From v3.5b5 the standard Ctrl+drag is used for copying phrases and notes instead of Alt+drag. You can drag the rhythm of a phrase by Alt+drag. Making a ghost copy is Ctrl-Shift+drag, so only the Alt and Ctrl was swapped for these operations.
Thanks,
Attila

Yes, I agree. It is very hard to do everything right for the very first implementation. I guess I am not good at it, but on the other hand I am willing to rework things over and over until they become perfectsecondstep wrote:Yes this would take Rapid Composer a big step forward towards my ideal way of working.

It's okay, no need to blame yourself if everyone wants to change the shortcut. I was not aware of this, just haven't used the app in quite a while, in fact I saw the change in v3.44, so I was asking.musicdevelopments wrote:I am sorry for the confusion, I am the one to blame. maybe it is more easy to program that every rythm note can have own phrase variations. this way can add for the snare a phrase variation rotate notes which do the shift or a simplyfy phrase variation that work for 1 note only

No Criticism was meant Atilla .Rapid Composer is an excellent tool. Once you have made the changes you hope to make from version 4.0 , Rc will be at whole new level. It is a credit to you that you are willing to revisit problems and come up with better solutions. It is very hard to do everything right for the very first implementation. I guess I am not good at it, but on the other hand I am willing to rework things over and over until they become perfect

Just a question as I haven't had a chance to try this, but, can RC read a tempo map? i.e., and set the tempo on the timeline accordingly?

No, I am afraid this does not work. You can assign different tempo for parts, lines and even for chords, and internally the playback engine is capable to handling gradually decreasing or increasing tempo, but this is not implemented in the user interface.
Tempo track is not read from imported MIDI files, only the global tempo setting.
I suppose this will be added in one of the v4.x versions.
Thanks,
Attila

ahh well.. something to look forward to.. On another note, pun intended, would be nice to have a built in looping sequencer, similar to Reaper's Mega Baby.. hint hint..musicdevelopments wrote:No, I am afraid this does not work.
