1. I think so much of the power of recorded 'volume' comes from the ambience. Without context (ambience), a guitar tone (or anything else) is like looking at a ball on a white background. You can't tell if it's a basketball or a pea.
Small/medium room impulses.
Also, delay one of the speakers by 20-25 ms.
2. Don't try to sound like SunnO))). Sound like something new. Something extremely loud and doomy and dense, but new. Or at least different to SunnO))).
Unless you're aiming at a SunnO))) tribute band.

Re: Model-Ts. I had one (+ Orange 4x12 cab) years ago. I don't think they are absolutely necessary, more an aesthetic thing for the band. The drive in the Model-T amp is more loose in the low end than tight - smoother, darker and less spiky in general than your average cranked Marshall, otherwise containing no magic doom fairydust per se. Even a Fender Twin and Russian Big Muff wouldn't be a million miles off.

I'll try playing with the multiband feedback in Ohmicide going into GR5 this weekend and post results.

Here's my test with Ohmicide with feedback going into GR5. The first half is the unaffected guitar the second is processed. All the distortion came from Ohmicide. Ohmicide was using a slightly tweaked preset called GuitAmpFbk. GR5 used the Bass Pro head going into two 8x10 cabs. One cab was mic'd with a DYN 20 (Electro-Voice RE20) mic just off center and the other 8x10 was mic'd with a DYN6 (Audix D 6) mic'd on center. These are panned a bit off center from eachother. I didn't have much time to really play with it but you can get a small idea of what it sounds like. Hope this helps.Steve Bolivar wrote:I'll try playing with the multiband feedback in Ohmicide going into GR5 this weekend and post results.

I think Detuning the guitar and adding some reverb/delay will make it heavier, and closer to the most of doom/stoner bands. It's really nice!Steve Bolivar wrote:Here is the same track with Ohmicide alone

In these examples, if the goal was to sound as thick, heavy and saturated as doom drones like SunnO))) and such, which is the subject of this thread, sorry but Ohmicide totally falls apart and fails at this. To me it sounds very aluminium'ish, thin and very digital. But maybe that the sound you're after?Steve Bolivar wrote:and with GR5 alone

I really doubt the guys of SunnO))) themselves would even be able to reproduce their own sound with that plugin

As posted earlier in the thread there was talk of needing feedback to get the Sunn O))) sound. I was just trying to show what the feedback of Ohmicide was like. Definitely without any detuning, delay and reverb it will tend to be a little thin. I'll post something thicker later.

I tried to max this one out with two parallel chains of Ohmicide into GR5 with slightly different settings. Also added reverbs and delays. And in the interest of finding a unique sound and playing a wild card, I added a track of iZotope Vocal Synth into GR5.Haghiri75 wrote: I think Detuning the guitar and adding some reverb/delay will make it heavier, and closer to the most of doom/stoner bands. if one uses a DAW which allows feedback routing (eg. Reaper) certain possibilities open up
