Hey I made my first gif movie! ...to demo what I described earlier:

A workaround that I have found efficient is to create a folder for Scaler Midi clips and give that a tab under Files in the S1 Browser.
You can then click and drag the midi progressions from Scaler using its Export Midi button across to that folder in the S1 Browser.
From there you can then drag it from the Browser into your song placing it wherever you wish.

Psyclapse that's cool, it's a pretty reasonable workaround & doesn't interrupt the flow too much - many thanks!

Yeah when I found I could do it this way I went ahead and purchased Scaler. Its not too bad a workaround as you can stay on the song page. Of course I still hope the Scaler guys can find a way to make it work as intended. I can fully understand them not wanting to write DAW specific code, but like you said earlier EZdrummer has no problem dragging and dropping multiple midi clips at once into the current song so perhaps there is a straightforward way to do it.

Nothing in the promo video made me think, "That's new" or "That sounds good"

I don’t use Cubase, but I agree with xbitz: Scaler is a very basic, elementary tool for reverse searching of chords/scales suitable to a given melody (but an Android/iOS app like Piano Companion can do this for a lesser price...) The added value of Scaler could be represented by the embedded chord progressions of various artists. But even this bonus doesn’t make of Scaler a bargain. I’d wait for Scaler 2, if any...

Someone around here mentioned Sundog a while ago: http://feelyoursound.com/sundog/
It's pretty cool and easy to integrate into any DAW, since it's external application and you can use it as a midi source.
And support midi drag&drop too.

But that's Scaler looks pretty interesting...

I agree with barryfell

Cubas's Chord track is by fat the best tool for Chord/Prograssion creation.

I'm surprised non of the other DAW's have this functionaliny or any plugins that jumps into this.

for now there's plugin boutiques's SCALER and captain plugins's: CAPTAIN CHORD

and of course EZkeys.

buit non of them work quite like cubase's chord tracker

It's a mistake to compare it with Cubase Chord Track as it works completely differently. OK my DAW is Cubase 9.5 Pro and I use chord track I also have a Komplete Kontrol keyboard and use the chord sets on that but Scaler brings more to the table. Regard it as widening your options or choices and for the money its a no brainer. I insert a Scaler track into Cubase then another instrument track (The sounds on Scaler which consist of a Piano and three Synth's are not conducive to insperation). Set the Midi Input to the new instrument as the Scaler Midi Output. Select both tracks ie the Scaler and new Instrument Track and then Mute the Scaler track. When you play your keyboard you have the Scaler Chords playing your Instrument of choice and also when you press record it records the full Scaler Chords.

Suggest you spend at least two hours or more getting into Scaler and once you do you will be hooked.

Hey Greenplums

I use Cubase 9.5 Pro too and use Scaler to record progressions on another instrument track as you state, however I just wondered if you got the MIDI export drag and drop to work?

Sometimes I just want to do just that. drag and drop the progression, but I cant get it to work for me in Cubase, even though I can in a friends setup where he uses FL Studio which creates a MIDI pattern (Think that's what they are called in FLS) on any instrument track.

Not sure what I am doing wrong in Cubase, so wondered if you had managed this alternative way of getting MIDI onto tracks from Scaler.

I've been using the Captain plugs for a few weeks now. Really quick and intuitive and I'm more than happy with the outcomes...really helping me past a very long dose of writers block. (I am doing sort of 80s synth pop stuff)

And the winner is Scaler! You have to buy Cubase Pro to get anything close to what Scaler offers, and that's just too much money to spend, unless you have a professional business to justify spending that much.

Scaler is closer to the scales & chords functionality of the Akai VIP software. PB has put together a neat little tool that is pretty flexible.
