is anybody developing VSTs to make EnergyXT and other modular vst hosts more like Reaktor or the nord modular? Somebody should make a bunch of plugins that can be chained together to create effects and synths. Control signals could be routed through audio connections and MIDI connections easily. I'm sure it would be that hard and I would certainly pay for it.

You can do this already with Synth Edit! 8)

Yep, like pirana xt said, get synthedit. You can try it for nothing and its only $20 to register.

Worth every penny if you're willing to put a little effort into it.

i lack the time and backround to do this myself. or at least the motivation. maybe i will, but that's not the point. i want somebody else to do it.

I think you may be missing the point, or we have crossed wires here!

Why are you asking for a set of modular building blocks if you don't have the time to use them? If you get synthedit, exactly what you get is a set of sound and midi modules, which you can chain together in infinite ways.

Then you can save as VST plugin or synth if you want.

Alternatively you might be asking if oscillators, envelopes etc like in synthedit are available as individual VST's. The answer is - kind of.

I think ModulR did a bunch of things like that.

Another easy way would be to simply get synthedit and wrap a bunch of simple modules into individual VSTs. That would be an easy way you could build your own set of custom "micro" sound/midi components for EnergyXT.

That's what I was getting at!

However, the traditional way of building synths & effects in SE isn't any more difficult than if you had the modules directly available inside EnergyXT. You'd still need to know what you were doing! At that point, I don't know if there is any real benefit to what skiptracer is asking for, which is just a re-invention of the wheel as far as I can tell.

I've kinda done this stuff with the Konstrux stuff for Tracktion's rack filters, to build a modular granular sampler.. Problem with XT, is that it doesn't like to show you the names of the inputs/outputs correctly which makes it a bit of a task to use. Click the link below.

Maybe you should check out plogue bidule. www.plogue.com

It can run as a VST now. 16 in/outs in XT.

This would be great feature to request, that the inputs and outputs be labled as per the individual VST's :)

Reading all this I had to go download synthedit. I installed and set up the audio preferences and it worked for about five minutes and then the audio turned to static. All my other audio programs are working fine and there is nothing wrong with my soundcard. Is this something that the demo is supposed to do? Anyone?

Post

Nope, the demo is fully functional. Under what circumstances did you get static? Were you hooking stuff up, or playing with the examples?

Did you try restarting SE, or did the hiss continue?
Set Theory claim:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate.
Red is Red and anything that is Red is an object, a class in itself or a real thing if you prefer"

The demo that loads on startup worked the first time it opened. Then I started doing the tutorial and right from the first time I inserted an oscillator all I could get is static. I have restarted and even reinstalled and all I can get from Synthedit is staticy noise. The static does seem to be controlled by the synths but it is just static. This is such a great alternative to Reaktor at such a cheap price but I am hesitant to purchase it now. If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it. Also, what are the limitations to the demo? Is it just an honour system to purchase a liscence? Thanks. :)
