I've been on here for 15 years and using music software for 25 years probably, so I've spent a small fortune on DAWs and VST in that time. I think the point here, for me, is that the €9 per month may actually save me money if I stop buying and selling VST all the time. It's a terrible habit.

Ah, who am I kidding...it'll never happen!! ;)
Why the hell would you buy a bunch of RE's when you already have VST's? Seems like you are determined to throw away your money!!
It's not a like-for-like comparison as I think you perfectly well know!! Better integration with "native" reason devices, the modular patching etc. Of course both have their place and I can mix and match. I don't have to choose one or the other. I'm experimenting with both and I don't have to get rid of my VST because I'm now using Reason.

It's just a bit of fun for me and I'm exploring my options. As I've said already, I don't consider a small outlay on my hobby to be a waste of money.

Anyway, let's keep it friendly :)
Friendly sounds good to me :)

I have noticed lots of people buy something... use it to maybe 10% of its capability, switch to something else, dabble with that one, move on to another and so on always thinking the grass is greener and no offense meant, giving in to the social compulsion to buy stuff... I don't know if that's you, but if it is, the best advice for that person is to stick to what you got and dig deeper.

I’m absolutely guilty of buying and selling too much, but I’m trying to get better! I’m watching lots of Reason videos on YouTube and seeing what people can squeeze out of the stock devices. I enjoy the messing around as much as the end result, and Reason is a good messing around environment!

I’m also waiting for a possible April/May sale at Propellerhead which has been hinted at in various places.

Hey... do whatever you want... generally speaking, constantly buying stuff could be the biggest impediment to getting better.

If you are happy messing around on the surface, there really is nothing wrong with that.

I think it's stupid for a few reasons, no pun intended.......

the obvious one: you don't get to keep anything. at some point, you'd probably regret going down that road.

it's not as good of a deal as you think, as the total value is based on the full price of the rack extensions. never pay (or rent at) full price for rack extensions. especially now, as there are always sales.

you can demo rack extensions for 30 days. if you just jumped into Reason, why rush in to sign up for anything when you can just demo things first? even trying hard, if you intelligently spaced out the demos (say, only one "premium" synth per month, to really learn it, along with a couple of effects and utilities, and perhaps a "smaller" synth) it would take you over a year to demo everything.

the Rig rack extension bundles. wait for them to go on sale and then jump on them. these are ridiculously good value (for example: the Synthetic Rig bundle sports 6 premium synths, 6 "ancillary" synths, and some cool effects and utilities). they come in at a lusty 349 each, so wait. I remember they put the first ones on sale around Christmastime a few years back, for a ridiculously low price (somewhere between 125-150, I believe), and getting nauseous over it, given how many rack extensions I had that were in the bundle, that they were virtually giving away.

so the plan is obvious: demo re and wait for rig bundle sales, then scoop 'em up.

OK, I think my worst fears have been realized regarding the subscription necessary component of wen based log ins: I am getting an error that there is an issue between my computer and the authorization server, and to contact support. I think I will authorize to just my computer in the morning. This will keep me from using the service, for better or worse.
If you have requests for Korg VST features or changes, they are listening at https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/requests/new

Oh dear, not good.

I can't say I blame you. As I've explained here already I think I'm OK with the financial implications of a subscription model. But these sorts of technical issues are a big alarm bell. It's all working fine...until it's not!
