Right, I'm not gonna throw in the towel on this fecker, but my samples sound like poo. What the hell am I doing wrong??? I just want to put together some DnB loops but they all end up sound crap. I'm using Cubase and Wavelab and I am inclined to do the decent thing and blame wavelab. Waste of money as far as these things go? I play around with the samples export them to cubase, speend them up, refrain from gaging, try to save them, close the program and yell "f**ks f**king sake, grrr bollox".

Now I know for a fact that some proper no tallents can make decent beats from samples so I must be missing something big. Pitch shift, distortion, other crap just isn't enough to make them sound good. The reason I know I'm not a tallentless wank, dissolutioned by a false sense of hope is that my one shot loops are great, they sound better than good.

What am I doing wrong, what programs do people use? Is wavelab an expensive pile of crap?

Thanks :D

To cut the crap, should I buy Recycle? Will it help much? :?

- What do you mean, 'make beats from samples'?
Sampled drum loops or individual beats?

- Recycle is great for chopping up drum loop wavs so you can rearrange the individual beats.
Wavelab OTOH, is just an audio editor.

maybe you should try some compression.

All that speedup/mashup malarky can be done realtime in your host with something like Battery. Yeah, recycle is useful, though maybe concreteFX's Dicer will do everything you need. As for making your breaks sound good, that's something that doesn't make sense outside of a mix. It's about how all the pieces fit together. It's all about selecting the right sounds and using EQ and compression appropriately, and that's an art-form that's going to take a long time to perfect.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

The best thing to do is to constantly A/B your tracks with other material that you like. I often import tracks into my songfile/edit so that I can A/B whilst working on my tunes. It's true that that's comparing mastered with pre-mastered material, but that's just something you have to keep in mind.
I think that if you do this you'll start to hear what's lacking with your mix - stuff like 'Ah, my snares are dull and have no high end', 'My kicks are too middly with no Ooomph', etc..

That's something that I don't do but sounds like a good idea. Maybe I should be more picky with the breaks that I use?

All great advice, I'll try some compression and stuff, jus keep at it for a while... :?

Thank you for the help :D
