What is so groundbreaking about Beyonce's Lemonade?

You might have just hit on the actual problem. The degradation of pop culture on a whole. That’s probably a bigger issue then Queen B. I mean, where’s the party at? Where’s the light hearted fun? Where’s the let loose? So much hate.. so much anger... so much self righteousness and protest. Gawd... everybody wants to be the man.
You guys are going to make me miss my ride. I’m out.

Come to think of it,why do we even need a Beyonce vs Beck thread when there's Phantogram,Bjork,Baths,SZA,Kiiara,Lusine,Man Made Time,Gold Koa,Monster Rally,Joan As Police Woman,Yellow Days,Au Revoir Simone etc etc out there & that's just a drop in the bucket

Agreed, there was a time when the word "groundbreaking" meant something.aMUSEd wrote:Neither are groundbreaking

Yeah, tbh I've never understood what people see in Beck, his music just seems to be trying to be clever but failing and musically it's soulless and just doesn't do anything for me. As for Beyonce, I quite liked some of her earlier stuff, it was gutsy and enjoyable although never as musically sophisticated or well sung as say Jill Scott or Lauryn Hill (who did make an album that is more entitled to be called groundbreaking). Unfortunately I can't say the same for what I've heard of her recent stuff which seems to be all over the place musically and just doesn't hang together well.

What's that old saying? If you've got lemons, make lemonade. It could be a hidden meaning. Maybe she doesn't like the music herself and rightly thinks her voice is crap.

This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.
