Great deal! I use B&W 602's, they're smoother and easier to listen to than my flatter monitors (PMC TB2's, Tannoy System 800's, etc.) but I love working on them. I do most of my work on them, then switch to the PMC's for a final check.sablabaesj wrote:I've found myself faced with a rather odd situation where I have the opportunity to buy a pair of Bowers & Wilkins CM6 s2 speakers and a Cambridge Audio CXa60 amplifier for a total of 1100USD (This would normally cost almost 3000USD).
HS8's are ruler flat down to 70Hz and don't really drop off until 50Hz. That's ridiculous for a 2-way speaker, I don't know why people don't make more of that. If I needed monitors, these are what I'd buy.Now the question arises; Is this setup worth buying when I intend using them for production, or should I still buy a pair of studio monitors (like Yamaha HS8 etc, been thinking about them for a while) at a normal price?
Indeed! The knee jerk reaction against hifi speakers is usually because people weren't using B&W's. I'd say the B&W's for mastering, the HS8's for mixing. Maybe get the B&W's now and then add HS8's later?I find myself leaning towards the hifi-option in this situation, mainly because I cannot imagine a hifi-setup at 3000USD sounding that much worse than a studio-setup at 600USD.
