I was under the impression one already existed. I think it was alluded to in the bedroom producers review of this synth that I read. I haven't looked for it yet though so I don't know.

The 0.41 version has AU only - bad news for Bitwiggers...

Hmmm. I'm OK with very limited functionality/programability, but without functionality that basic this will be almost completely a chiptune competition.
I mean I guess that's not surprising given the nature of the synth but I was hoping there would be some ways to push it beyond those limits.
I'm just speculating though because I have yet to try it myself.

Yup, limited, but I'll do my best to make something other than a chiptune!! In some ways, this makes us really concentrate on the composition and arrangement - I'm sure with oodles of instances and layering up sounds it can sound like a full scale orchestra :hihi:

That was my first thought as well, but go through some of the presets which are in the sources, those .sbi files, definitely beyond what I would associate with chiptunes, though it is by definition chiptune...; - )
Then the challenge is more in composition than in sound design...

Ya know, this is exactly the attitude I usually have. Sorry for the pessimism.
You're right. The composition is king and layering can solve a lot of problems associated with functional limitations.
Ultimately with proper layering and volume automation any synth can function as a basic yet powerful additive synth. :D

re: composition, I came to the same conclusion. I too often find myself veering towards familiar intervals and scales - this will be good for me.

Um... has anyone else experienced this?

Try playing back quantized 8th or 16th notes... The timing is very very poor.. What gives??

This beat should be straight- exact quantization...

I experienced some weird timing like that, but I thought I must be imagining it and it seemed to go away. Odd.

... just tested it ... i am not (really) lucky with the ADSR-Steps ...
@LocalMan: you are right! Different instances with automation may solve it!
My best result is to work with the best reverb ... it gives the right "body" to any sound ...
But Logic's "SpaceDesigner" is not the right one! ... so i hope all effects will be allowed - also the non-free - particularly for this competition ... :tu:

... i prefer 2C-B2

Attention penguins:

Falktx (who else?) made a Linux port of juce-opl, well, the source code for a Linux version.
Instructions for building the plugin are in the readme.dm on the repo.
I'll build it tomorrow.

Well if you are using the latest version of Logic there is also Chomaverb which is quite nice.

Edit: I just looked up 2C-B2 and wow that looks like an incredibly deep reverb plugin (almost more than just a reverb really).
You wouldn't be able to get that functionality with stock Logic plugins without chaining a bunch together and using them on a send or something (if at all).

No, sorry, i am still on Logic 9 ... and i'm lucky with it: absolutly stable with os 10.11.6!

... that's right. it's a "swiss-army-knife" not only for bad recordings ... and it is easy to handle. I bought it second hand for a very low price. Now it is NFR (not for resell) but i don't want to miss it!

... so what do you think about changing the "effect"-rules only for this competition. It might makes sense ... and may be it makes more sense if there are more people who want to change it .... :hyper:

You mean, allow commercial effects this round?
I would be in favor... but not because of the noise :hihi: .
There are some commercial tools that would really come in handy for me.

The whole idea behind the OSC is a challenge where you should miss your wellknown tools...
Especially tools like that would change the character of the one synth into something else. I prefer we stick to the rules, for my taste they are even too loose already...
