Ok, first impressions, this is by far the most unintuitive DAW I ever had chance to try, quite overwhelming experience, so many stuff there, still can't find option to change piano roll grid size...
This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here?

Not a SONAR fanboy, but in my experience, any program that is "intuitive" quickly reaches the limits of what it can do. SONAR is a DAW. It is very capable, and has a big fat manual that will tell you how to change the grid size on the PRV.Zexila wrote:Ok, first impressions, this is by far the most unintuitive DAW I ever had chance to try, quite overwhelming experience, so many stuff there, still can't find option to change piano roll grid size...
Failing that, you should find some +/- buttons on the scroll bar ends.

Also Any DAW can be hard at first, I've been playing around with it since morning and it took me a bit but im catching a hang of it. Just takes time to memorize the new locations of essential features and Shortcuts.
The post above this is likely bait, viewer discretion is advised.

I imagine that will occur upon the actual release. This seems to be a pre-release... almost like a beta I think to get the kinks worked out?SJ_Digriz wrote:Where are you guys getting this info? I have a lifetime plat subscription, but have received any communications from BandLab.

I agree with Zexila though. I found Sonar pretty unintuitive when i tried X3. Most of the things can be done in 3 or 4 different ways, and the GUI is quite cluttered, and looks thrown together. It was also the only DAW i ever tried which crashed while scanning my plugins. Oh well.prodigal_sounds wrote:Not a SONAR fanboy, but in my experience, any program that is "intuitive" quickly reaches the limits of what it can do. SONAR is a DAW. Maybe it went into spam or smth. They sent out emails telling former Cakewalk customers to register a Bandlab account with the same email they had with Cakewalk.VitaminD wrote:I imagine that will occur upon the actual release. I received nothing from BandLab. Been registered as a Cakewalk customer since 1990-something.robotmonkey wrote:Maybe it went into spam or smth. I had similar experiences, but I had been conditioned to expect crashes and clutter as a computer user since 1987, so I stuck with it for years. Then woke from my delusion and found the competition much better. I was glad I got off that road... and then Apple started screwing up their own products, Microsoft style. Sigh.chk071 wrote:I agree with Zexila though. I found Sonar pretty unintuitive when i tried X3. Or maybe there was no announcement email because this is a pre-release release and not an official release type release? Either way we now all know so it is a non-issue...robotmonkey wrote:Maybe it went into spam or smth. Not sure weather it's a non-issue or not but the Bandlab email said that one has to register a Bandlab account in a couple of weeks time if one wants to retain the ownership of former Cakewalk products.VitaminD wrote:Where so it is a non-issue...

I don't believe there was a time limit like that. They do say to register your bandlab account with the same email you used for your Cakewalk account.robotmonkey wrote:Not sure weather it's a non-issue or not but the Bandlab email said that one has to register a Bandlab account in a couple of weeks time if one wants to retain the ownership of former Cakewalk products.VitaminD wrote:Where so it is a non-issue...

I have a number of plugins it does not detect. No Native Instruments for example.THE INTRANCER wrote:Uncovered an issue, it doesn't seem to see UHE's Hive instrument plugin... humm
I have live and fruity loops and Live wins heads down for creation of a track.
I think I will explore this more when mastering because I think live could be better.
I noticed it had rewire, however when I opened a live project through rewire it also did not load the plugins, which is a big issue.
Might take a while to get the hang of ....

Blackmagic make money from selling hardware. They have all sorts of cameras and video editing equipment that they sell. The free software is meant to complement their hardware.ozmuso67 wrote:Blackmagic design is another company that gives away high-end software for free. You can get Davinci Resolve and Fusion, very capable and high end versions of colour graders and compositors for free. They do have paid versions which add features that would only be of interest to bigger studios I guess. They also have their camera line for sale.Spencer Maddox wrote: There Has to be some greater plan in place, Like one that Ties into Bandlab as a service.
My point is that I am sure there is a logic in giving away (what some people consider) decent software for free. Maybe it is goodwill, maybe it is free advertising.
Either way, Blackmagic design do it, and they do it very well, so I am sure there is a logic and a plan behind BandLab's giving Cakewalk away for free.
Anyway, I'm off to try a slice of my new cake with a coffee.
BandLabs business model is not quite clear although they do ask for donations when you download Cakewalk.
