Cakewalk Sonar Platinum is now free!

I was a Cubase user for years, moved over to FL Studio.
Installed Sonar tonight and it took me about 90 min to get to grips with the options and interface thanks to my familiarity with Cubase.
I must say I'm impressed by the level of GUI customization, compared to Cubase at least, which was a bit limited when I last used it, Cubase 8.
This deal = Bargain of the century!

Did this come with the effects like LP-EQ and such?

Not sure.. I do see the Sonitus plugins listed in the drop down. The entire prochannel seems to be intact AFAICT -- I see and can use Breverb and the Bus compressor which are neat.

I still had a few months left on my update subscription when Gibson made their announcement. Now that Bandlab is giving it away for free, I really feel cheated. I think I'll sit this one out. I'm really happy for those who want to continue with Cakewalk, but for me, the ride has come to an end.

You will give up using something that you enjoy, that you paid for.... because other people get to have it too.

It doesn't seem like you enjoyed Sonar at all, only the idea that you had Sonar and some other people didn't.

For missing/undetected plugins plugins be sure to double check the searched plug-in folders setting in the plug-in manager.

I wasn't enjoying Sonar all that much at the end anyway, but I did keep my copy current. I was a Sonar user since 2004. I feel cheated because I paid for updates that I never got for over $200/year. I honestly don't care what anyone else has or does.

Installed in a test machine out of curiosity. Haven't used Cakewalk for ages and was pleasantly surprised that the interface feels like it's still 1998. Uninstalled.

No offline installer. The authorization is locked to the internet through BandLab assistant.

Too bad, I have to pass myself because my rig is staying offline. A thread was started there about wanting(demanding) offline installers and one of the Dev's chimed in writing in essence "No Way" as it stands now and the future.

It's their way of controlling access so I you want it get on line otherwise your SOL.

Anyone manage to get it out of Demo Mode ? I logged into the "Bandlab Assistant" as advised but no luck. I've rebooted, logged out of the Assistant, poked the interface like it's a two dollar hooker and still can't find a way to get it authorized.

I've got Sonar X3 on my studio computer but installed this version here just to see what's new.

Oh well it's been a long day, I'll give it a try tomorrow to see if I can knock it out of Demo Mode. Must be something I'm missing.....

How is it funny? I vastly prefer the Cakewalk GUI over Cubase's, but I would never criticize others for liking the latter, since I know it's a matter of taste.

I'm not sure what to make of your comment. You don't actually think I thought "altruism" could possibly be their motivation, did you? It's a rhetorical device, offering two alternatives of which one is not really an alternative. Like, "Kids, do you want smoked spinach puree for dinner, or should I go get some pizzas?"

It seems clear to me that they're desperate to maintain a user base and breathe life into the product at a point when people are/were writing them off / jumping ship.
