Help for a newbie?

Hey there,

I was just looking for some advice, like most of us here . I'm about to purchase m good self a powerbook with digi 002R with the factory bundle. What I'd like to know about is the VST world, I'm an experienced recorder of sound but when it comes to mixing, VST, ReWire etc... (plugins that is) my arse and elbow kind of look like the same thing! Are VST's just soft synths and drum machines are there VST reverbs/delays/etc that will work in PTLE? and if so what ones are good and where to get them? I know I sound like a plastic toilet here but any info you guys can throw my way would be well appreciated!

VST plugins include all sorts of virtual effects and instruments. In your case, you will want to check out a "wrapper" to make VST plugins available to your host. For example: http://www.fxpansion.com/product-rtasadapter-main.php. While plugins are like add-ons to your host software, ReWire technology enables you to link different applications together, synchronizing playback and "wiring" audio outputs together. For example, you could use ReWire to insert a virtual studio like Reason into your host software, and route ReWire's outputs into audio tracks. When you press play, the Reason project is sync'ed to your host project. That's the quick and dirty explanation, now go out there and download stuff. Good luck!

thanks for the tip. Let me get this straight though... If I got, for example BFD, I can sequence drum patterns in reason and have reason rewired to PTLE?

As regards VST plugins are there VST's out there you can throw on top of an audio track, electirc guitar for example, and make it sound like something completely different? like a moog sound or something, or would you need to have a moog VST instrument and a midi controller and play your synth sound that way???
