The Serene Worlds Soundset contains 150 high quality presets for the utterly beautiful Thorn synthesizer from Dmitry Sches and is suitable for any contemporary electronic and ambient music genres. This soundset has been lovingly crafted since Thorn's release, nearly half a year ago, while being tweaked over and over on monitors, computer speakers, and headphones for optimal balance between sounds. It includes over 180MB of noise samples and attacks embedded within the presets, in addition to over 100 custom presets for Arp, Glitch, MSEG, Effects, and Harmonic Oscillator Modules.

An optional MIDI and Noise Sample pack is also available for an additional $5, which includes nearly 24 MIDI Files (over 50 merged patterns) used in the audio showcases and 80 samples, 240 MB in .wav format, which can be used used inside thorn or in other synths. These are extremely useful and sound great on there own! They can add the icing to an already beautiful sounding patch to make them truly inspiring.

Good morning. Over the next week or two, I plan to finish up the main video of the track - turning the images I used on the site into videos with parallax and depth, moving the planets around the sky and adding ripples to the water (this time, I think I will experiment with adding an audio spectrum superimposed on this and see how it goes :) )

Also, I still have some more audio streams I very much need to stream of the bass sequences. They sound lovely but I feel they need to be placed in a track-like context and simply not on there own, but, this too will take a bit of time. Finally, I'd like to finish up the main demo track, publish, then call it a wrap. It'd be very nice if I can finish this all by the end of the month, before the intro expires -- will plan for this date. Cheers :tu:

Super rough sketch using some of the keys. First part is without drums, second includes them.

Tips and tricks I added in another thread and thought to copy it over, plus add a little :D

Thorn has undo/redo parameters next to the preset scanner, top right. After I found this I found myself using it dozens of times a day.

The smoothing parameter in the harmonic filter usually makes things sound better when modulating the parameter.

Sometimes it is better to use the harmonic filter as an subtraction eq for certain sounds.

Filter volume and drive amount are interconnected. Increasing the volume can increase distortion. Reducing the filter volume but raising the global volume can minimize the distortion, when near same audio levels. If one is working on plucks or keys, try, tuning the volume on filters down to around 10 percent and using the global, when minimal distortion is desired.

Have more, will try to add some soon. Just from the top of my head.

P.s. also, the harmonic filter and the oscillators themselves are interconnected deeply and they both do there summing/math thing together before the data is turned into audio. The oscillators don't make audio, then the harmonic filter cuts into it, the harmonic filter subtracts or adds to the oscillator single itself to then produce a signal.

To Dmitry -
I also had a question about how you created the formant harmonic filters. Do you mind expanding how you went about doing that?
Response -
Formant shapes in harmonic filters are pretty easy to make if you use some sample as a reference. I've been making it in the following way. I played voice audio sample on a track and captured it's spectrum on the spectrum analyzer (like Voxengo's one). Then I load sawtooth wave into Thorn, zero harmonic filter curve, then draw bars at the formant frequencies by looking at the spectrum analyzer. As soon as the main vowel frequencies made, I use series of "Smooth" commands in the editor, make few drawings and again smooth it. I can try other commands in the middle of the process if it sounds good or issue an undo to rollback the changes. So it's a pretty quick and easy task and smoothing helps a lot here.

Yes, I have something like this paper with guide on formant frequencies, but for me, it's easier to find a sample which sound I like and then just capture it's peaks. By using samples I can check first if I like the overall sound character, while you can't preview results with exact frequency values until you draw it.
The paper in question I mentioned is here.

Image of a harmonic formant pattern from paper. These patterns can be drawn in for formant like effect. Any pattern that looks like parrallel bp filters with high resonance (above fundamental frequency) should produce a typical vowel type sound when modulated.

Awesome sounds! Very tempting! :D

I'm piecing together a patch walk through where I spend time playing nearly all 150 presets. I have everything recorded but its long and needs editing, which takes a bit of time.

On another front, another Thorn soundset might be coming sometime soon :D The more time I spend the more great stuff keeps coming out of Thorn :D
