Few question regarding 909
In Manual it says 909 should have Tune option for BassDrum when hitting Panel button (like 808 has). But there is no additional Tune option just Gain and Pan.
Is there a way to Tune BassDrum lower?
Moreover is there a way to tune CH and OH? I am comparing plugin to my 909 and while everything seem to be spot on just cleaner - cymbals are tuned higher on plugin. I actually suspect my 909 has lower tuning due aging but i like it better. Therefore asking is there tune for cymbals?
If not is there some sort of plugin which could tune these instruments lower?

That would require developing a new copy protection mechanism to allow offline use without connecting to the internet. I think it's unlikely.Echoes in the Attic wrote:I would hope that the instrument that you own would not have to ping the internet regularly to see if you’re still allowed to use it.
I think the most likely scenario is the plugins will still connect to your account, but your account will be updated to return an authorised response to the plugins you "own", regardless of whether your subscription is active/paid or not - so you'll still need an account, still need to authorise the plugins from time to time, they'll just be authorised without having to be paying for a subscription.

let me guess...
meanwhile the crack users have the luxury of using them when and wherever they choose..?
Again, i realise they'll be a percentage of people happy to be pwned by the system, but come now.
Hopefully there's enough people holding out to cause some re-thinking of this subscription cloud-ware caper.
I'm happy to be in the minority anyway. Would be nice to have some actual Roland endorsed soft synths, but at least i have plenty of other fantastic sounding options. Shame though. People will acquiesce.
Potatoes gonna potate.

With the Roland Cloud 909 the Bass Drum, Snare and Toms have a "TUNE" knob at the main panel.kmonkey wrote:Few question regarding 909

Are you in the minority? I'm not sure Roland Corp really understand how many Roland fans they've pee-d off with this Cloud-only debacle.sqigls wrote: Again, i realise they'll be a percentage of people happy to be pwned by the system, but come now.

They really should give people a choice to either buy the plugins seperately or subscribe to their cloud service. I would definitely choose to buy the ones I like (unless the price is rediculously high).

You’re probably right. It’s just annoying to have yet another service having to be ran on startup, which is the Roland cloud background program. With you there like elicenser and ilok you can start to bloat your computer with these things. Though I’ve sworn off ilok personally due to frequent issues.beely wrote:That would require developing a new copy protection mechanism to allow offline use without connecting to the internet. Are you on Windows? I don't know what the status is on Windows, but on the Mac at least, the Roland Cloud service thing is only basically for checking updates and managing installations - it doesn't need to be running to use the plugins. I only ever run it manually when new stuff has been released, in order to add the new plugin/s, and then quit it afterwards. The plugins themselves do the connection to the auth servers and manage the response, there are no other services running as far as I can see.Echoes in the Attic wrote:You’re probably right. What is a bit annoying is that fairly regularly, you open a Roland plugin, and it's de-authorised, so you have to dig out your password again and re-authorise. For people that use secure passwords as a matter of course, it means going to your password manager, logging on, finding the Roland one, copying that, then going back and copying the password back to the plugin. When you use a fair few Roland plugins regularly, it's a bit of a pain. They could just as easily store your password, or an access token derived from it, and authenticate for you in the background when they needed to and there was an internet connection, thus avoiding the need to prompt. Then only if the authorisation failed should they display the login prompt...

From the Roland Cloud website:
Do I have to be online to use the instruments?
You have to be online to initially authenticate the instruments, but after that you have seven days before you need to be online again.

That's correct. You do NOT always have to be online to use the plugins.SLiC wrote:From the Roland Cloud website:

Like beely just mentioned you can close Roland Cloud Manager if not needed which is also true for windows 10. I only open it if i want to update plugins or install/deinstall them.
Plugins are re-authorized from within the plugin if needed, not with the Cloud Manager software.
The username seems to keep saved so i only have to re-enter the password there.
If you re-authorized one of the plugins within you DAW that should then also work for the other plugins.

is it just me, or does this seem like a very backwards and poorly planned torture-esq process to be subjecting your customers to?beely wrote:...What is a bit annoying is that every month or so, you open a Roland plugin, and it's de-authorised, so you have to dig out your password again and re-authorise. I mean, i can understand maybe some ultra-fast-paced engineer working in a Sony studio somewhere thinking "wow, all these plugin renting cloud services are very handy for me", but i just can't fathom how it makes sense to most other people. Rent-to-own maybe yeah, cool. but this kind of customer torture (and that's what it is)... oh yeah, we've had lots of shoplifters in Tesco lately, so now if you wanna shop at Tesco's, please line up for your mandatory x-ray.
bah, i can't think of a decent parallel here, i mean, it's just not happening, I'm gonna go shopping elsewhere.

I am aware of that, that was obvious i was speaking about global bassdrum tune .Ingonator wrote:

Tune on 909 controls the decay time of a short falling pitch envelope not the whole instrument tune.
But hardware 909 had pitch tune mod (non official of course).

Aira range can do that. You can tune pitch on Bassdrums and on cymbals.
I am speaking about global BassDrum pitch tune. 808 cloud has it. Sorry for not being clear.

It's better than it was. Initially you had to authorise *every* time you loaded a plugin...sqigls wrote:is it just me, or does this seem like a very backwards and poorly planned torture-esq process to be subjecting your customers to?

Corresponding note numbers for the 909 are mentioned at page 8 in the manual which is opened with clicking at HELP in the plugin GUI.Andywanders wrote: Not being able to trigger patterns with MIDI notes is a downer. You have to have it running from song start to end.
Notes C0 to G0 switch the 8 pattern variations A-H, Note G#0 starts the step sequencer playback and note A0 stops sequencer playback.

The world is changing (like it or not) and 'owning' software in the future may be less common. I am quite happy with my Office365 subscription, hell, I genuinely prefer it. People used to 'hire' hardware to make an album, why not just pay for 1 month and make a track?...80% of the plugs in my folder I don't use, owning them doesn't help....probably paid many 1000's over the years, with the cloud I can just 'stop paying' if I don't want to use it (and start paying again if I do). Its a different way of looking at things, but for the cost of 1 plug you get a year use of a lot of very cool stuff (and at the end you get top keep one if if you don't re-subscribe).sqigls wrote:is it just me, or does this seem like a very backwards and poorly planned torture-esq process to be subjecting your customers to?beely wrote:...What is a bit annoying is that every month or so, you open a Roland plugin, and it's de-authorised, so you have to dig out your password again and re-authorise. If the instruments had been for sale there are at least 4 (probably 5 as a have a system 1m) I would have wanted....assume 120 bucks each - that 600USD...I have it all now for 20 bucks a month with no commitment, and if they keep adding 5-6 new interesting instruments a year, you get it all for the cost of buying one...
That's my positive spin, I am in a good mood today as its Friday
