Echoes in the Attic wrote:That beat service offer is great for 199. Do they offer a download option like Steinberg though if you don’t want the dongle?

I’m just not sure if it’s worth getting this rather than just Halion 6. All of the Halion SE content comes with Halion 6 anyways right? And retrologue and Padshop Pro have their modules completely covered by Halion 6. So I guess it just whether you want groove agent, the piano and the extra halion has packs for dance and cinematic. For me that’s mostly no. And I noticed someone selling Halion 6 in the marketplace the other day for 120. I guess with the recent deals we will see the odd Halion good up for a good price.

So I guess I’m torn.
Again, the content that comes with Halion Sonic SE (the version that comes with Cubase) has nothing to do with the full versions of Halion and Halion Sonic. But you probably meant Halion Sonic, not SE.

Retrologue and Padshop have a ton of presets (completely different from those offered by Halion), several exclusive expansions and the interfaces are more suitable for making quick/throwaway sounds. Retrologue has modulation source drag and drop which isn't possible in Halion yet, and Padshop Pro includes like 1000 exclusive samples.

Ah, yes I did mean Halion Sonic. But I'm still correct that Everything in Halion Sonic is in Halion right? Thanks for the other info, sounds like there are indeed quite a bit of extra presets and content. I wish Steinberg would get their act together and figure out how to have polyphonic aftertouch in their instruments though, rather than assume everyone uses Cubase with note expression.

So I wonder if there is a download option for best service.

Ok best-service, come on now, u had your fun..

So best service says that this is a download product and that the usb elicenser is required for activation but isn't included in the box (which doesn't exist anyways for a download). Does any know if this can be activated without the dongle? I'm pretty sure it normally can but the info on best service is confusing.

Slimeberg says:
With an unused activation code you can activate your software right after the installation.

After entering the code in the eLicenser Control Center (which will be installed along automatically with your Steinberg software), the license will be downloaded and stored on your computer or a connected USB-eLicenser (dongle).

I have a "Steinberg Download Assistant" installed.

Thanks for confirming.

Halion 6 is able to be configured to my liking much easier than Kontakt.

I would have to be able to write scripts for Kontakt for things that are readily available in Halion,
and I can't, and don't want to have to write scripts.

I really like Guitar rig and Battery 4 from Komplete, as well as a couple others.
Absolute is deep enough that I don't have a grasp on a lot of it yet.
But everything I've wanted to do with it is pretty easy to accomplish.

Most people probably wouldn't use everything that's included in either one,
but I guess that's the case with all the collections.

Hey Romantique Tp: I spent some time on a few chats with a couple Steinberg people today,
and I'm happy to say that they got me up and running smoothly, after a few panicky moments
of losing all my licenses. But all is OK now. :tu:

Still can't get on the forum there, but I can live with that.
Which sampler has the more well rounded stock library for basic bread and butter sounds. You know stuff like Strings, bass, synths and brass etc.

Are you talking about just the Halion Library vs the Kontakt Factory library? The latter is pretty long in the tooth now, Halion beats it easily. However if you're comparing to Komplete or K Ultimate it's a different story. With Komplete you get a pretty nice selection of all that, though it still has holes if you're talking real instruments, but with Ultimate, I'd say most of those are filled. it's debatable but I think Ultimate has the stronger library of real world instruments. I only demoed Halion for a month or so though so perhaps I'm wrong, but that's my impression.

That was me. ;) Since I got the Absolute Collection for 199 I figured 120 is a fair price. And I had a couple of eLicensers lying around from stuff I bought on KVR over the years, so I could just throw one in. It went really fast though. I had 4 people offering to pay that amount within a couple of hours. If you ever sold anything on a eLicenser here on KVR you are probably painfully aware that this is quite unheard of.

I have the collections, so the stock sounds might include more than what comes with the individual programs.
Either one comes with more than I'll ever use, but Halion lets me modify them to my liking easier.

I was just responding to the 3rd post on the 1st page.
There's no doubt that there are far more libraries for Kontakt (so far), if you're into that sort of thing. Both can import though, so it just depends on what someone is looking for.
Kontakt got the jump on the user base, but Halion seems to be catching on
with more people now.

So Halion Sonic SE sounds arn't included in Halion sonic or Halion 6? And you said the SE sounds came from an old Yamaha workstation, where do the new Halion, and Halion sonic sounds come from? Are there many patches also developed by Yamaha in there?

Also, nice name, I get the reference from SD90 and/or ZUN lol
