Yeah, I really hope he is okay.
I also pre-ordered the Falcon library and he always was in the top 5 of my favourite sound designers.

And yes, Bronto Scorpio is also missed...

Best wishes to both of them, wherever they are at this moment!

Cheers,

Tom

Suddenly, out of nowhere, I received download links for Evocative Symbolic Orchestra today.

No accompanying text of interest or an explanation of what happened, just a short "here's your order" and the link.

Nor complaining though. Seems he is back in action!

After selling an Alchemy soundset on pre-order that after a few months of not happening suddenly was called a "subscription" which would be delivered in smaller batches... the first of which was delivered after another while and then nothing...

... well, that was roughly a year ago. Probably about the time he disappeared back then. Smells a bit like "run, hide, wait until the dust blows over the case".

I´m not sad or angry because I lost a few $, I´m just disappointed.

This happens to me way, WAY too often. Prodcyon had a 99$ plugin for life campaign. I paid 99$. He quit making plugins for VST. (Thanks...) I thoroughly vetted Camel Audio (been around years, lots of instrument addons, not going anywhere, etc.) before shelling out 250$ for it. Then boom, it gets sold to Apple and I cannot even buy the instrument packs I'd been saving up for (Again, thanks.) I resort to buying from Korg, and they required a iLok dongle. Dongle died, Korg no longer sells the dongles, and they told me to just buy the Digital Instrument pack again -- for another hundred or so. (Thank you sir may I have another.)

So I no longer have ANY faith in ANY producer of software sound gear. I don't have the cash to be taken for a ride whenever anyone feels like it. So unless it's finished, and sold for a one-time charge, I don't care. You have a subscription service for your instruments? What happens when YOU close up shop, and I am left with nothing at all to show for my payments? If it's not in the can and one-time purchasable, I don't have the money to lose anymore taking the chance on it. I'm already in the hole for plugins I don't have, for a Synth that's orphaned, and other synths rendered useless and dead.

Yes, you‘re right.
Nothing lasts forever.
All things must pass.
Even in our revered plugin business...

Strategy to deal with this law of business?
Mine is this:

Avoid small and medium developers with big price tags on their products.

Buy from small developers just for petty cash and see it as consume spending and not investment.

Buy from the really big boys and hope they stay in business.

Sell off all that‘s not fitting into the above grit.

My two cent...

Mikael is one of my favourite sound designers ever.
I don't know what happened, but was quite concerned when I didn't hear from him.
I hope he is well.

And the "Evocative Symbolic Orchestra" soundset is awesome :-)

Cheers,

Tom
