I could be mistaken, but I don't think they are offering the full platinum package. however, there is talk of future updates, and if you look at the about screen on cakewalk it appears to be time limited( although a pretty generous time limit at that)
Music is the language of the soul.

The best music comes from the heart of the performer or composer.

It already has been mentioned earlier that that's just an authorization thing. The license doesn't expire. At least that's how it has been communicated.

Well . . . I think it's still a tad overpriced all things considered, they should also be greasing users palms with a bit of green for the inconvenience of using Crapwalk, or Crapwalk by BandLab
Now, you KNOW this is going to piss a lot of people off!!!! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:

Bravo!!! Well done!!!!

It doubt it'll piss anyone off, it was just a stupid comment. I found it more obnoxious than anything. It screams "Look at me!" :dog:

+1. People can trashtalk my choice of DAW all day, I'm not making them use it.

+2. That's the kind of comment haters do. It simply says "I hate them, and I hate their products". Doesn't even bother to justify  :dog:

After reading all the 13 pages of this discussion I know many people are very upset about this and that. Hoped to find some users experience about Cakewalk, but maybe to high expectations in this community.

I have installed and tested it now, I never used SONAR before, so I can't compare it to former versions. Formerly using Reaper, I'm thinking about moving here (current state of thinking: I won't anyway). Maybe there are some users knowing about (dis-)advantages of this software?

Personally, I like the idea of these ProChannel channelstrip thing, but not decided wheater I like the more customizable functionallity of Reaper more. Having an x86-Wrapper internally is great, some people here obviously not using 32-bit plugins say not to use 32-bit plugins. But yes, there are some gems that aren't replacable yet.

So: someone familiar with Reaper and Sonar here, who can say something about major drawbacks?

I'm too gonna dive in into it, this DAW seems packed with features and I actually like the general layout, some stuff aren't intuitive, but once I got my head around it, it will get better, it loads fast, every plugin works, community will get bigger and bigger.
This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here? :D ShawnG

As a current and happy longtime user of Sonar 8.5 pro I appreciate bandlabs gesture of the next generation of Sonar for free!! I just want to know what will happen to the activation of the cakewalk synths I own like Z3ta2 and dimension pro and Rapture.

So how far did they get with the Mac version and if they did I wonder if that would be free.

Seems like it doesn't have high DPI as Studio One 3?

Started with 12tone systems cakewalk in about 1988 running DOS 3 on an old 8088 bought sonar v2 when released moved on it was too resource intense.
Something tells me bandlab did not do this alone? Kind of has Microsoft written all over it IMHO. No need to bundle with windows like Apple does with garage band, and will create many peoples account to advertise?
Who know though I could be way off base?

Anyone else having 'issues' with Bandlab Assistant? Since installing, every time I start up my computer it opens up BA and tries to go online, even tho my computer is disconnected from the internet. The program then gets locked in a loop and wont shut down. I couldnt find any way to change this behaviour, so I've ended up uninstalling it. Haven't tried running Cakewalk without it yet ...

The developer just updated Bandlab Assistant so you have the option to keep it from starting up every time.

For those who want answers to questions feel free to head over to Cakewalk Forums. The owner Meng is on the forum and answers a lot of questions.
