Also, nice name, I get the reference from SD90 and/or ZUN lol
Here's the sources for most of the samples used in the full versions of Halion 6 and Halion Sonic 3:

-Some acoustic instruments from the Yamaha Motif XS and XF. Most of the SFX, musical FX, and synthesizer waveforms from the Motif series are also included.
-Wizoo's original sample archives. Pretty much all of the best acoustic instruments from Hypersonic 1 and 2 are included but in higher quality, with many more velocity layers, multiple articulations, and samples for every key. Additionally, several Wizoo sounds that were never included with a plugin before (such as their vintage Precision Bass) are also included.
-Several third party libraries for Yamaha's keyboards.
-An increasing number of newly recorded or licensed samples.

The 128 General MIDI sounds are the same as Cubase and use a mix of sounds from the Yamaha MU2000 and the original Motif. The GM sounds can be replaced by other presets though.

The Haliontron content is sampled from the original Mellotron tapes, and the most popular sounds (8 Voice Choir, the brass used by King Crimson, the Strawberry Fields flute and more) are included. I don't know who sampled the tapes but they sound pretty good to me.

A very large portion of the presets were programmed by Yamaha's Motif/Montage sound design team, but quite a few other experienced designers were also involved. Yamaha and Steinberg might collaborate again when they add the FM synthesis engine to Halion.

Well I took the plunge. Haven't had the best luck with Steinberg support so I wasn't sure i wanted to use their stuff. I can just hope that they smarten up and add polyphonic aftertouch. How is this not in these advanced workstation instruments? Full MPE would be nice too.

IINM, You have to load the Sonic library, which is the bulk of it anyway.
I have had just H6 by itself, but with the S3 library added. Otherwise, I remember it comes up with missing file messages.

I finally decided the program itself wasn't big enough to worry about and just let it install with each update.

Where I do use S3, by itself, is on my travel tablet. Kind of wish they'd let me set a second license just for it so I wouldn't have to have the dongle on business trips where I don't want to concern myself with finding the key.

The best part in Halion6 is that you never loose overview.
One short look and everything is clear.

Am I wrong or are the factory sounds pretty ninties stuff?

I don’t know maybe I like the nineties but I quite like the factory library. The sounds seem all very usable, as opposed to insanely complex or overly effected or modulated stuff like you get with some products that is impossible to actually use in tracks. While I use komplete and Omnisphere for example, I could never find a place for 80% of their presets probably. Halion to me actually seemed like it had more usable stuff. But again maybe that’s because I was in my formative years in the 90’s. I still enjoy the sound of a fuzz heavy weezer or smashing pumpkins guitar riff too. ;)

And Depeche Mode violator does not sound dated to me. It sounds timeless.

I thought the same with H-Sonic SE.
That's a plus. (everything was better back then anyways..;))
'Til now i found many nice sounds in H6.

Just messed with the multis like "Groovy 80's Disco". :) Funky, funky..

I thought it looked a bit 'busy' and overwhelming at first.

But after you work with it a bit, it makes sense.

You are right but theres always some things that require the manual. Like the tiny ABS button.. But hey it's a cool feature. Mostly the tool-tips are great.

Actually 2 mouse-clicks and the layout on my pic is back to normal. (default layout preset..and there are more)
All the splits slowed the grafics much down and i made Maschine crash soon after with all the clicking. yay
---
atm i wonder:
A deleted/blank program with a new layer + synth-zone does not make a sound.
Use the init program preset and it does make sound..
