Here's a curious use case. How do I hide a midi controller from one app so I can use two midi controller using software at the same time?

Description:
I have Virtual DJ (don't kill me) and PianoTeq 6. I want to play piano over Virtual DJ as I work loops and stuff. I can load PianoTeq first, then VDJ, but my controller for the VDJ (Akai MPD 218) plays notes both in Virtual DJ and in PianoTeq since I guess PianoTeq picks it up as a controller.

I figure someone out there has built a "filter/router" app but I'm not quite sure what to search for.

cant you assign different channels?

A lot of software has the option to select/deselect midi controllers. Check preferences in VDJ ...

Easiest answer: I would check the manuals for options to select a specific controller for input in each application.

Or else set each controller to transmit MIDI only on a specific MIDI channel, like 1 or 2. The set each application to receive on that MIDI channel only. If you cannot select that, maybe you could use a virtual MIDI patchbay like MIDI-OX to filter channels.
Windows 10 and too many plugins
