All I have in the way of plugins is the old sonitus suite and the pro channel stuff. There's no Classic Creative Suite/Studio Mixing Suite/Engineering Suite/Boutique Suite. Is it the same for everyone else here?

Yeah same here. Also, I got an email today informing me "Cakewalk by BandLab is a free, streamlined version of SONAR Platinum". First time they mentioned the "streamlined" version, and also the new paid version. That makes this "free" version a demo for the paid version imho. I'll be un-installing later.

Well, theoretically I see no fault with this. After all, one of the Sonar's big problems was that instead of improving the stability and existing features they opted to add a lot of third party bloatware. I really don't care about any of the plugins that Sonar came with. As it currently stands it's actually not a bad option for a second or a third or a fourth daw to just keep on hand.thecontrolcentre wrote:Yeah same here. How so?thecontrolcentre wrote:... First time they mentioned the "streamlined" version, and also the new paid version. That makes this "free" version a demo for the paid version imho...
As far as I can tell, the "Free" version is still a fully functioning DAW with no limitations.
It's a bit much to expect them to throw in all the extra plugins that were bundled separately. The only people getting those for free are the users who already owned them.
Or did I miss something?

Please post the email where it says about "the new paid version". I got an email from them this morning and there is no mention of any other paid version.thecontrolcentre wrote:Yeah same here. Mac mini m4 pro, Reaper, too many plugins, Modal Argon8, Novation Circuit Mono Station and now a lovely Waldorf Blofeld.

I thought that it was pretty clear from the outset that this was a streamlined version... and so what if there is paid version in the future...(although I have no such email about any paid versions) it's not open source software, and really it's pretty much expected that new versions, will have a price tag....thecontrolcentre wrote:Yeah same here. The free version isn't a demo, there's no time limits, no saving restrictions, no nagware, no functional limitations and provided as is.

But the email says it's really free!!
btw this is the performance where it is reported that

Not doubting that you have this email that mentions a paid version, but it seems strange that you are the only one who has received it.

They have not yet asked for payment, and they do not have any means of extracting payment,so I guess by most peoples definition that is free.aMUSEd wrote:But the email says it's really free!!
It works as normal, it saves, and I can re-open the saved song.
Its always possible that they have a remote kill switch, but until they decide to throw it I will keep making songs.

I also received a mail today, but I see no mention to future plaid versions. Anyway,. that wouldn't curprise me - a free or very cheap base software with paid extra DLC is common among game developers, for example.dellboy wrote:They first mentioned it was a streamlined version on the 4th of April.......thecontrolcentre wrote:Yeah same here. This blog post mentioned that it is streamlined version from day one when it was released free. I read it on the same day and it can be read now also.thecontrolcentre wrote:Yeah same here. You may directly go to "Note to Editor" section of the announcement post where they mentioned "Cakewalk by Bandlab" as "streamlined version of SONAR Platinum".

over on the Cakewalk forums, it sounds like there will be an update to the free DAW that includes more stuff, and then they will be coming out with newer versions of other stuff that will be paid for options. as far as i can see, the "streamlined" version is Platinum minus 3rd-party plugins & some Cakewalk plugins that will be offered as a la carte, while some of the other Cakewalk plugins will be part of the free version. Since i still have Platinum installed, i already have everything
my newest sounds:
