So it is streamlined. I wonder in which way, exactly.

Just it doesn't have most of the bundled third party stuff - everything that was in Sonar itself is still there by the looks of it

No it isn't, stop making things up.
I'm not making it up. I'll try to find the page again ...

Thanks. Doesn't sound too much of a limitation then.

The only mentions I've seen of any payment are the Tip Jar (which is voluntary) and future releases of other Cakewalk products - "for example, the next iteration of Rapture will not be released for free when it is ready unless you are an existing owner and eligible for a crossgrade."

I've not seen any evidence that BandLab intend to introduce a paid version of the DAW itself, in fact they make a big deal about how there is only one, fully-featured version and it is available for free.

I can't find the page, so maybe I've had a brain fart and imagined it. Sorry for the misinformation ...

There are no plans for a "paid" version of the DAW. The core DAW is free, full featured and not cut down, same as Platinum.

The release was streamlined of some additional content, due to licensing issues with 3rd party suppliers. Assume they would have had to pay extra to license that content for the new release.

Cakewalk bought Sonitus out, so that IP was passed to BandLab. In addition to the default ProChannel modules of Compressor, EQ, Saturation, and Console emulation, ProChannel also includes some modules from Overloud, such as Breverb 2 and ReMatrix Solo. There is also a Softube Saturation Knob.

That makes sense, and was also the first thing I assumed.

Can't get the Sonitus plugin's to show up, even though they are recognised during the scan.

Interestingly I found them here, but with a price tag....an they are from 2004 :o , so I imagine they are 32 Bit given the date... humm.

The Cakewalk Sonitus plugins are DirectX plugins, not VST. They should show up in Cakewalk, as well as Reaper, which has DX support. As far as I am aware, they are 64-bit.

Session Drummer 3 isn't in there (unless I've missed it) and that's not 3rd party.

The DAW is still fully functional, and that should be enough if you already have an established collection of plugins.

Fyi, if you are looking for free drums, MT Power Drumkit 2 is free. http://www.powerdrumkit.com/

Thanks, yeah I have MT Power.
Personally I'm all set on plugins (and DAWs), I was simply replying to aMUSEd's comment about everything that was in SONAR that isn't 3rd party is in Cakewalk by Bandlab. I assumed he was including the plugins in his statement, though I could be wrong.

Yeah, well it is still an 'early release' product, so probably best to not take a strict definition of what's included in the final version. There are probably a few rough edges yet to be worked out.

Cheers!
