The Sonitus plugins that shipped with Sonar were tied to Sonar, so they wouldnt open in other DAWs. If 'Cakewalk' doesnt identify itself to plugins the same way as the Sonitus plugins expect from 'Sonar' then no, they wont work.THE INTRANCER wrote:Can't get the Sonitus plugin's to show up, even though they are recognised during the scan.zzz00m wrote:There are no plans for a "paid" version of the DAW. Interestingly I found them here, but with a price tag....an they are from 2004, so I imagine they are 32 Bit given the date... humm.

And that could be as basic as the executable being 'cakewalk.exe' versus 'sonar.exe', or at the VST API level.
In other words, the plugins probably need rewritten to work.

Yeah, is that even possible, I still don't know how to add MIDI clip, I just open up piano roll with Alt+3, than make it full screen with Shift+D.Igro wrote:Installed.

Can't grasp how screenset will solve my problem, still I got tons of measures when I zoom out...VariKusBrainZ wrote:https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation? ... ent.7.htmlZexila wrote:Yeah.![]()
Ok, got another one, last one for tonight, can we set project end, so when we zoom out we only can work inside given measure, right now when I zoom out I'm seeing like 911 measures, I don't want to work in more than 200 really, stuff got tiny so fast, it makes zooming in/out quite a PITA.

The Sonitus plugins were owned by Cakewalk, now by BandLab, and they are not locked to the DAW. However they are in the DX (DirectX) plugin format, not VST.whyterabbyt wrote:The Sonitus plugins that shipped with Sonar were tied to Sonar, so they wouldnt open in other DAWs. They will also open up in Reaper, which is the only other DAW I know of that is DX aware, although there may still be a few others that do.

My mistake, then, its been years since I installed them. I guess I was misled by THE INTRANCER saying were coming up in his VST scan, which AFAIR is bollocks if they're DX. (DX plugins dont get scanned, they have to be registered by regsrv32.exe )zzz00m wrote:The Sonitus plugins were owned by Cakewalk, now by BandLab, and they are not locked to the DAW. What do you mean by "midi clip" ?Igro wrote:Installed.

Adding notes in a step sequencer ?
I never use a midi sequencer as I play in all my notes live with a guitar or keyboard. But,hey, even though I have only been using this daw for a week it took me all of 3 seconds to figure out how to open the step sequencer and double click to add notes and drag to stretch them to the note value I needed.
Is that what you meant ?

Not really. I mean adding a midi container to the main window. Just like in S3 or Bitwig.dellboy wrote:What do you mean by "midi clip" ?Igro wrote:Installed.

Use the media browser in Cakewalk (keyboard shortcut 'B'), or menu 'Views > Browser'.Zexila wrote:Yeah, is that even possible, I still don't know how to add MIDI clip, I just open up piano roll with Alt+3, than make it full screen with Shift+D.Igro wrote:Installed.

Browse to your MIDI files there.
You can preview them from the media browser (if you have a soft synth inserted to play back the sound), or drag and drop them to a MIDI track, or just double clicking them should insert them for you. If no MIDI tracks exist yet, it will add one for you. If you have an existing track it will insert on the selected track at the time you have selected.
You can even drag them to cells on the Matrix view, just as you can with audio clips.

You don't need to add a 'container' to a MIDI track to edit an empty track. Just add a MIDI track, then open the Piano Roll View and start adding notes. They will appear on the selected MIDI track.Igro wrote:Not really. I mean adding a midi container to the main window. Cakewalk has a strictly defined MIDI track type that is already a 'container', unlike some DAWs that require you to insert specific clip types of MIDI, audio, etc.
https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation? ... rs.05.htmlThe MIDI messages within a project are usually separated into smaller containers called tracks, and even smaller containers called clips, which are sections of a track.

Ok, bear in mind that I have no idea what a "midi container" is or does, and I am new to to this daw, but this is what I found in 1 minutes looking.Igro wrote:

Open up "insert instrument".
You then have a choice of Sl drums - bass - guitar - electric piano etc.
Open up, say, Sl drums, and you have a virtual drum kit gui.
In the top bar at the right of the virtual drum kit window is a step sequencer graphic.
Click on that and a step sequencer will open at the bottom of the daw, which I guess may be what you call a "container", where different drum hits can be triggered in the step sequencer.

No bollocks involved here, just add the folder path to them where the VST folder paths are, and you'll see the little turquoise box show them during the scan.whyterabbyt wrote: My mistake, then, its been years since I installed them. I have messed around with my asio settings, but just a little clipping produces crackles.

Well if someone really wants help diagnosing an audio issue in a DAW, they should probably post a new thread, give their system specs, and a little detail about what they have tried.BMoore wrote:No. But this is the typical answer. I have seen literally hundreds of threads where a user pops into a discussion topic with "this DAW don't work, I have messed with a few things without success, so it must suck". That usually doesn't end well, because there are more effective ways to ask for help. I suggest a dedicated thread because help discussions like this would possibly require detailed on-topic collaboration. Something likely to get lost in a typical KVR thread.
Another issue is that there are many different computer setups, with drivers and audio interfaces that all interact with DAW software and plugins in diverse ways. Some DAWs will work in some setups, and some won't. Sometimes, but not always, you can optimize your settings.
That said, I have heard some very knowledgeable Sonar users state that Sonar gets unstable for them if they really load it down. I'm talking people that use 100 tracks, and dozens of heavy plugins. And it works fine for others. Can't draw conclusions, except there are many variables.
So it really may depend on how you plan to use it. YMMV.
