Hi Tick,
remember your lesson about how to do a base with fast envelope?
I make something wrong, base is good but I can´t get it to 'click' a bit.
Can you upload an example?
cheers

There are mamy different ways to make a bass click. Just using a fast attack on a sample won't do it, though. Add a pitch envelope that starts high and returns to zero very quickly. The Pitch Env Depth slider will control the amuont of click. Using a LPF is another option, again, using a fast decay. Another method is to layer your sound with one of the "attack" waves. Or finally, you could sample your favorite bass sound and create your own multi-sample to put inside Rhino.

Actually I think you can do it with 1 osc only. Just use an envelope that goes very quickly to 1, and very quickly down to about 0.5. Then use FM to self-modulate the oscillator. I'll post a sample fxp tonight.

Häää Sample? Did you know that Rhino is a synth? I wanted to make a sound with Rhino, not using a sampler. Thanx anyway.daniel wrote: Or finally, you could sample your favorite bass sound and create your own multi-sample to put inside Rhino.

thanx, I can´t wait to see the parameters. You know Tick, strings, basse, Fx so much I use with Rhino.Big Tick wrote:Actually I think you can do it with 1 osc only. Here we go, a clicky bass preset with only 1 oscillator, get the demo preset here: Clicky Bass or listen to a mp3 sample.
I've used the additive editor to create a custom shape with 3 harmonics. This brings up more highs in the "click" part of the sound. Experimenting with the additive editor is really cool here, you'll end up with surprising results if you add higher harmonics... just give it a try
The envelope part is shown below, you can move the point I've highlighted in white for different click shapes. To draw such envelopes, where the first points are really close to one another, I usually work with longer times and use the "stretch 50%" function several times - and I finally move the last (decay) point as desired.

Finally, I've added some modulations for fine-tuning that preset a bit: the amount of FM is controlled by the key position (to avoid ugly aliasing artifacts) and by velocity (for making the sound brighter when playing harder).
I haven't used any effects, which is the right thing to do if you want that bass line to cut through your mix. Feel free to soften it out with a chorus and delay if that's your taste. Using a pitch envelope to add some vibrato could be cool, too.
