Steinberg says you need 7gb of free space.. (download is a Zip 5.99gb)
The reviews suck?
No, it's more than that. HSO used to come on 4 8GB DVDs. The 27GB sample library size is repeated over and over again in reviews from different sources. It also came with both 16 and 24-bit versions of all samples. None of the current material mentions this.

All I can figure is that the original HSO was distributed as uncompressed PCM, and the later versions use some sort of compression. HSO is a really old library by now, and lossless compression has come a long way since it was released.

I'm rather proud that I've resisted this offer, excellent that it is. My GAS is under control, at least for the moment. :hihi:

Halion Symphonic Orchestra and its predecessors were originally mid-high end libraries, and included both 16 bit and 24 bit versions of the samples. This version ran on the old Halion 3 engine.

HSO is now considered an entry level library so it no longer makes sense to include the 24 bit versions (there wasn't much difference between them anyway, both 16 and 24 bit versions sound very clean). The current Halion Sonic SE expansion version of HSO is smaller both because only the 16 bit samples are included and because the lossless sample compression is better.

I think this library is still pretty good sounding despite its age. A lot of people seem to like the horns. The strings are also great for layering since you get two sampled variations of violins I, violins II, violas and cellos.

Hi guys, I’m new to Cubase and have 9.5 Pro & I also bought Halion 6 when it was 50% off recently.

I noticed the sale on Absolute 3 is still on at Steinberg and can get the crossgrade for $175.

I have the SE versions of a couple of the plugins so my question is, do I need the rest of Absolute 3 when I already own Halion 6 and Cubase 9.5 Pro?

Should be easy enough for you to figure out. Maybe it's worth it to you, maybe not

If you get Absolute, you'll have to use a dongle for Halion.
But you've already got a dongle for 9.5 pro, so you can just add it to that one.

Also - not sure on this, but I think that if you get it, in the future if you want to upgrade,
you'll have to upgrade the Absolute package, and not just Halion.

As mentioned before you'll get a ton of new stuff, and this will always be the cheapest way to own all Steinberg plugins and keep them up to date.

The SE versions included with Cubase have almost completely different content compared to the full versions.

Steinberg-Download-ASSistant:

There's an Absolut 3 section with Halion 6.0 download...but..
there's also a Halion section with a Halion 6.1. update.

I saw an update for Groove Agent on the website.
The Assistant doesn't show the version no#.
Dunno..

Also there was newer version of the D-ASSistant..but it doesn't tell you.
So much fun.

What's this? I bought Absolute with the understanding that I don't need a dongle. Haven't downloaded and activated yet, but this can't be true. Pretty sure you can use the soft elicenser right off the bat.

According to the Website, Absolute 3 requires an USB dongle.

hmm i hope that's not my fault. (sorry if)
I thought the same and posted something from steinberg support which sounded different. (page 3)

Seems it doesn't count for all software.
Now i found this..

Steinberg premium software products (Cubase Pro, Wavelab Pro, Nuendo and Absolute) need a physical USB eLicenser dongle to run. The soft eLicenser is a bit of a disaster waiting to happen anyway. There are so many things that can go wrong and for which you are relying on Steinberg to issue you a reactivation code.

The Grand 3 and Groove Agent 4 haven't been updated to use the Soft-eLicenser. For this reason the whole Absolute 3 collection requires a dongle.

Once these plugins receive new versions, the Absolute collection will no longer require a dongle. Groove Agent 5 is already in the works and will *probably* be released within a year. (based on the questions from a recent survey, they're planning to completely revamp the interface and workflow, and include better acoustic kits).

They're also planning to use a new piracy protection system for all of their products that wont require the dongle and will be more user friendly than the Soft-eLicenser. I don't know which will be coming first, but you'll most likely be able to move your current licenses to the new system.

All you have to do is register your Soft-eLicenser to your MySteinberg and you're free to reactivate the license manually. You don't really have to contact support unless you forgot to do that.
