I do agree that the copy protection method used by the software should be put up in a prominent place so people know in advance what they're getting into. That way, for those against iLok, they can know to just avoid it and move on to something else.

Well, it isn't like iLok wouldn't be stated in the system requirements for every single iLok plugin there is. But, sure, people don't like to read these days so much, so, maybe companies should make a video instead.

It's not a question of being too lazy to read, it's a question of not wasting time going through a whole bunch of random promo stuff before you finally get to the part that tells you what is required. And since every website is designed differently, and styles of presentations vary, this is not always quick and easy to do.

One cool thing about KVR is on a product's details page, you have quick access to MSRP, OS compatibility and CP. More than once I've been at a developer's website, gotten lost in a sea of glossy hype, and simply come to KVR instead to get this essential info.

Frankly, if you're serious about a plugin, and you care about the copy protection, you should find the respective informations. It's not the company's task to write in bold letters "ILOK PROTECTED!!!!!" on the website. It's enough to list it in the computer requirements, really.

Also what may be your "essential" could be the next guy's "couldn't care less". Yes, really.

Took 2 f*ckin days for ilok to get their shit together but we worked with some other plugs for the rest of the deal til the update rolled out and we could print it.

See I knew the guy and he had trouble with it too but man... deadlines dont budge and this shit is nothin we control. And if this was a bigger studio doin film work? No director is gonna give 2 shits about your probs. Dont deliver in the hour? Boom! Youre gone.

only time i got pissed about ilok is when win10 first came out... even though i had PACE enabled on start up... sometime it would get skipped during start up but it was simple enough to start up task manager and start PACE (although it was set to auto) the only other thing that was a bummer was how many developers dragged their feet on win10 implementation. was not a smooth roll out.

i was adamant about NOT using ilok but ended up get the dongle for free with a VST i wanted that was on sale and since then i am more than happy with it. as was said in a previous comment... the cream of the crop all use that protection and it opened a BIG door for me getting the dongle for free. i have never looked back cheers

I kept being told that the reason I was doing poorly in school was because I had a bad attitude. That constant berating resulted in leaving me with a bad attitude.

Right... it's the user's fault that software does the broken crap that you described above. Yet again the irrelevant machine analogy. If you are sold new tires for your car, and they have design flaws, you blame the tire manufacturers, not the driver. If a non-computerized machine was engineered as brittle as computers, failing at daily functionality, the company selling it would go out of business.

Sorry that's not what I said. I was pointing out that users also have a responsibility. However, for some users copy protection has a bigger learning curve than the plugin, so their buying decision must simply start with CP. Easy-peasy.
